The Twilight Zone

Many years ago there was a program on television in the United States called ‘The Twilight Zone.’

The programs were under thirty minutes long (in one season they tried an hour, but returned to the shorter version) but gripped the viewer from the opening music until the epilogue.

There was an eerie ‘not quite right’ sense in each episode, which would soon be revealed, usually in Rod Serling’s introduction.

There were twists in the plot, and  the ending was most often a surprise.  The Twilight Zone was called; “The Most Innovative Thirty Minutes in Television.”

I saw some of the programs, years ago, mostly in reruns.  I recalled everyone I had already seen, but in most cases, viewed them again because they were that good.

There were 37 episodes in each season.   As Rod Serling did most of the writing, (although he had a few from other sources) it would be a  lot of work for him.

A number of  actors appeared in episodes long before they were famous. Among them are Robert Redford, William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy George Takei, James Doonan, (all who would later appear in Star Trek, the Original Series) Julie Newmar, Burt Reynolds, Carol Burnett, Jack Klugman, Peter Falk,  among others.

Each show was unique in its way.  The plot, the acting, and of course, the writing.

I’ve been watching the complete series, online, for free at 123movies.to.

It is one of the many sites I watch as there isn’t much on local television and hasn’t been for years.

The interesting thing about Twilight Zone is that many ideas have been captured and redone and presented as new by other sources started there.

Seeing the episodes now, viewing the ‘then’ culture; how everyone dressed and smoked, and thought and lived, is truly a step into the ‘Twilight Zone’ for the changes in 50 years have been so startling.

It is a series I fully recommend as those who never saw it should, and those who may have caught it when it first aired or gotten a few episodes, would also enjoy it.

    • If you like old TV shows and you like sci-fi, you have to watch The Twilight Zone. The other show that I used to watch was called “The Outer Limits”. They tried to revive and remake these series. But the original were better.

      • Oh Yes! I saw it. That was the first time I saw David McCallum, and also Robert Culp! That show was like a copy of Twilight Zone... but I agree with you. The originals were much better. The epis were well written, the actors and actresses were first rate. I just gave a handful of stars who first appeared on Twilight Zone. Last night I heard a tribute to Star Trek and a guy said; "Willian Shatner never had to cast for Kirk. I saw him on the Twilight Zone and gave him the part."
