The Reason Why I Doubt

I live in the 4th World.  I live in Jamaica.  I have personal experience of the attempt the United States made in the 1970s to Underthrow the government of my country.  I was here.  I saw, I heard I lived it.

In the 1970s our Prime Minister, Michael Manley, made the schools free. Including University.  I know this For a Fact, because I attended University for Free.  The qualifications to matriculate was merit.

Michael Manley made health care virtually free.  I know this because I was here and I used it.  And health care in Jamaica then was 100x better than it is today.

Jamaica had close ties with Cuba so the United States decided to underthrow the government of Michael Manley.

Those who lived through the ‘Arab Spring’ know what I’m talking about.  They know how America used locals to get rid of the governments.   Where locals failed, they sent in the CIA, England sent in the SAS and they armed and fought the government.  Then left chaos.

When I listen to the News, whatever News it is, from wherever in the world, I have a reluctance to believe what I am told.   I don’t discard everything, I sift.  I listen, I check, and I sift.

For example, the BBC is anti-Israel. Always has been.  At eight a.m. one will hear that “Israel fired five rockets into Gaza.”  This will be repeated at eight thirty, at nine, and then, softly, at nine thirty, “Gaze fired five hundred rockets into Israel.”  And that is the end of the story.

However, comparing the BBC to other services, which leave out so much, which cut and paste, I tend to be even less gullible.

In Jamaica, in 2010, there was an event in a section called Tivoli Gardens.   If one were in Rockfort, which is about three miles away, one wouldn’t know anything was happening.  Yet, the way the even was reported it seemed the entire island was in chaos.

There are a lot of people who hear about this event in Syria, or that event in Venezuela, or something in France, and believe everything they are told as they are told.    I don’t.  I wait.  I hear it, I check it if I can, but I don’t begin to shout at the top of my voice, or take sides, until I know what is happening, really.

I know that non-whites are being deported from America wholesale.  I know some don’t have papers, but others do.  Yet, they are being deported. I know many Jamaicans who are legally in America who are afraid to come home, even for a funeral, because they are afraid they will not be allowed back in.

This is not what I read, this is what I know, and could give evidence.

Most news stations have their own play book.  They know what they want people to believe, and so couch news, twist facts, so as to get people to believe in their position.   It is like selling junk food and telling people it is healthy.  The person who is selling, who has money to make will be loud and certain how good his pink slime is. I don’t listen to him.   I would listen to a person who has nothing to ‘get’.   I would listen to someone who can back up their point with facts I can check.

So when I hear some report about anything in a country where I don’t live or have someone I can phone, I reserve opinion until such time what is reported is provable or disprovable.

    • This is happening with every country and everywhere nowadays. The media can give a twist and make relentless efforts to make you believe what they want. This practically did not occur during the recent U.S Presidential elections as most of the U.S citizen were in favor of Mr. Trump than Mrs. Clinton. The media tried heavily to criticize, demoralize, and unpopular Mr. Trump. But, it could not get success and finally, the people got what they want and Mr. Trump could swear in as the President of U.S.

      • The majority of people voted for Hilary clinton; it is the electoral college which gave Trump the mandate. He has a 34% approval rate today. I don't know what you read, or where you get your information, but I would try to get other sources. Doing a short search on the Internet of Trump's approval ratings today will turn up the figures from various sources.

    • Hmmm the media has become a force to recond with. They seems to become misinformed group of people who do not appreciate the truth and fact anymore as that do not sell as much as falsehood and lies. They have become laws unto themselves as they fed the general public with false information which will excite people and paint others bad or black as they say it. I don't listern to the media any more in my country because they have all become progovernment press who sees nothing wrong with government policy. Let watch them carefully.

      • I check different sources when I hear something and stand back. I don't jump in... too much bias.
