For every right you possess, there is an equal and opposite right.
Formally stated, this is Newton’s third law; that is: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Using the American ‘Bill of Rights” you have a right to bear arms. You also have a right Not to bear arms. This means if you don’t want a gun in your house, you don’t have to have a gun in your house.
One of the most important obverse right is that of Freedom of Hearing.
Don’t waste time trying to find where these rights are listed. They are not there. All that is there is, for example, Freedom of Speech.
You have a right to run your mouth like a toilet bowl with a broken flushometer.
I have a right NOT to hear you.
Imagine a radio.
Oh listen! Its the BBC! What time is it? Oh; 9:39 a.m. I’ll shut off the radio until 9:59 am. At 10:00 am the News will come on. It will run about six minutes. It will be rushed through, so that the British Broadcasting Corporation can dump more boring blah-blah from about 10:07 to 10:29.
I call what the BBC dumps as Blah-Blah because if I don’t shut it off, my ears will be offended by pointless noise.
It is Not Educational, Not informative, (although once there were presentations one could virtually use as a research paper at University). The Blah Blah is just filling the time with ear pollution.
The BBC has freedom of speech. They can broadcast what they think is good or what they want to shovel on the public. I have freedom of hearing. I don’t want to hear it. So I have the right to turn it off.
Most nations have ‘Noise Pollution’ laws. That is, if the idiot next door wants to blast his music, I have a right to call the police and have him turn it down so that he can bother only himself, not me.
One of the Interesting things about freedom is that people tend to want to impose their freedom on others.
You can eat whatever you want; hey! You can eat your relatives, if you want to. I am a vegetarian. I don’t care what you eat. I am not eating it.
You can believe anything you want; you can pray to a green banana if you want. But you have no right to impose your beliefs on me. You have no right to proselytise to the extent you infringe on my freedom of religion.
You have the right to Vote, and as the previous elections, (both in Jamaica and in America) you have the right not to vote. You can sit on your vote and let others choose the government.
It is significant for one to explore the fact that Newton’s Law applies to mundane earthly things.
