I watched a documentary on t.v. a few months ago about this haunted bridge, called the Overtoun Bridge, located in Scotland. The show I watched wasn’t certain as to why dogs would randomly jump off the bridge, for what appeared to be no reason at all.
After watching the documentary, the next day I spent a few hours watching videos on the internet, in search for what could be the cause of the dogs jumping off the bridge.
As I mentioned before, the bridge is located in Scotland, and it’s called the Overtoun Bridge. Several dogs have lost their life by jumping over the 4 ft wall that surrounds the bridge on both sides.
Experts in animal behavior, and in this case, behavior of dogs, believe the dogs aren’t aware that there is a 50 ft. drop on the other side. They think that it’s just a wall that they’re jumping over. Possibly by their curiosity of what’s on the other side, by watching people that are looking over the wall, and they want to see what they’re looking at. It could also be because of the smell of mink in the area, which dogs are attracted to, which is found beneath the bridge.
The Overtoun Bridge is a beautiful bridge, however, if I ever had plans of walking my dog there, I would definitely have my dog on a leash. I would think by now that they would post a sign that states to keep your dog on a leash at all times. Reading different articles, I’ve only seen one incident recently, which happened about 2 years ago, where a woman’s Spaniel dog jumped over the wall and survived, but the owner of the dog stated that it was not like her dog to have done something like this.
In the case of this bridge, if you have ever heard of the saying “Curiosity killed the cat”, well, this is a situation where “curiosity killed the dog”, as approximately 600 dogs have jumped the wall, in which about 50 of them have died due to the jump.

Luckily I'm a cat person. From the view on your photo it seems like there isn't a huge drop when some dog jumps over it.
I'm a cat person too. There's actually a 50 ft. drop off the side, but there's a lot of shrubbery before you get to the center of the bridge.
