The Fyre Festival; a failed Scam

Over the decades there have been music festivals which have taken the public’s imagination.

In 1969 there was Woodstock.  This even captured the most amazing moments in the culture of the day.  It had the major stars of the time, from Jimi Hendrix to Janis Joplin, Santana, Jefferson Airplane,  The Who….almost every one who was anyone appeared at Woodstock.

People who were there remembered it all their lives.

In 1978 the First Sunsplash happened in Jamaica.  This was a complete experience with reggae, ganja, and the usual sun, sex, surf.

An entire culture, that of the Rentadread,  grew out of Sunsplash.   Women from all over Europe and America would  come to Jamaica to buy a ‘Dread’ and enjoy the music, the ganja, sex; so that for about a week,  it was magic.

Everyone appeared at Sunsplash, from Bob Marley to Big Youth,  it was all that and went on for a number a years, then ended, and attempts at revision have been tried.

One can imagine how many Scammers would look at Woodstock or Sunsplash and think…hey!  That’s a great way to rip off the public.

And so came the Fyre Festival.

This was very expensive, but was supposed to have the top performers and be absolute luxury.  It was held in the Bahamas as Jamaica has a special Scam Task Force, and ripping off Jamaicans is a non-insurable risk.

Imagine this:

A Festival promoted by models and social media personalities and promised  yachts and celebrity-chef catering, but was really a crash on the beach with cheese sandwiches, tents, with no lights, no water, no toilets.

Entry was expensive; between $1,000 and $125,000 so that  patrons could be dumped on a remote island… like Lord of the Flies to fend for themselves.

I guess it was one of those Scams that was ‘due’.

The only question, is how did the organisers think they’d get away with it?

There is a 100 Million Dollar law suit slapped on the promoters who probably will migrate to where there is no extradition treaty, and enjoy their rip.
