In the First Episode I described the characters in the ‘play’ and the basic situation. In the Second I went into a particular, which, on the surface might seem minor, but spotlights the kind of ignorance that prevails when a business is failing.
Being so hands off as to be unaware that a school was operating from what ought have been a Home or Dorm, for over ten years, is the unassailable proof that those in charge know absolutely nothing about the place I call Cray Z House.
The rare visits to the premises were so derelict, that something as obvious as a school being run on a veranda was unseen. How?
The appointment of a Board of Directors, consisting of persons who simply wanted the title and had no intention of performing any task is evident. As in many organisations, people like power. They want titles, they have neither the interest nor ability to fulfil obligations.
This can be found in many failing businesses, and moribund organisations.
Many incompetent people strive to off-set their lack of ability by getting a ‘title’ which ‘proves’ they are not worthless.
That the person appointed to ‘manage’ did nothing of much value, collected secret sums from the school and from renting rooms in the section of the Dorm which were not to be rented, and their rental unknown to the Board ought have led to the instant dismissal.
But, as previously stated, the Board was unaware of what was occurring and did no due diligence.
That the helper copied her ’employer’ and did nothing can not be shocking as without leadership, without supervision, why should the maid clean when she doesn’t have to?
In any business, there must be people of some ability on the ground, paying attention, doing what is required, and reporting their findings. Where there is no knowledge, the business may survive and even show a small profit, which blinds the eyes to the fact that the profit should be much higher.
In situations as portrayed in this series it is only when there is a catastrophe that eyes will turn and when pockets are attacked, suddenly, everything that was perfectly evident comes to light.
One can never be ‘hands off’ , one can never be distant from Ground Zero.
This leads, inexorably, to a situation as in Cray Z House, where the water bill climbed by 400% because of the introduction of a pay to use washing machine.
Something no one who had any knowledge of the situation would have done.
