Located in the area of Hollywood Hills, that overlooks the San Fernando Valley in California, stands the strange looking Chemosphere house, also know by locals as the Flying Saucer House.
John Lautner built this 27 ft. tall home, back in the 1960s. It’s sits on a 45 degree slope, that overlooks the Valley in Los Angeles. It has a 5 ft. thick pillar, that has an structure that is octagonal in shape which sits on top of it.
If you want to get some photos of this bizarre architecture, you would take Laurel Canyon Boulevard, to Mulholland Drive, then after traveling a long winding road, you will find it’s location at 7776 Torreyson Drive. As you approach the house from a distance, it actually looks like some sort of UFO.
A long time ago, it was known as the Toadstool House, and it actually used a cable car to get to it.
Inside this Chemosphere House is approx. 2,200 sq. ft. of living space.
This house is well-known in Los Angeles, and if you ask anyone for directions to see it, they most likely would be able to give that to you, or point you in the right direction. Remember though, this is private property and they have signs posted indicating that. So, even if you drive to see it, you’re going to have to view it from the street, and respect the homeowner’s privacy.
This structure has been used in many television shows, and movies. It was even in one of the Outer Limits episodes. It was in the movie, Body Double in 1984, and was also used in a Charley’s Angels episode.
This structure became so popular that in the video game, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, you will see something very similar to it, near the sign that says, ‘Vinewood’.
This house has also been used in a video called “Only Time Will Tell”, by Saga, and was even in the 1997 Men in Black.

It is resembling a Flying saucer. That might be the reason for calling it so.
An important thing we have to observe is that it is located on a slope having 45 degrees. This is the reason for becoming so popular and for preferring it in many TV shows and movies.
What I have observed is that the locations which are on slopes having 45 degrees are ideal for shooting. This is the inference that can be drawn.
In Andhra Pradesh, India there are some places which are meant for shooting T.V shows and serials. Most of the T.V serials will have at least one scene shot on them
Some more observation along with relevant information relating to their location, style of structure, climate, etc., are some of the parameters needed for arriving at a conclusion in regard to such locations.
This is a really amazing building. How I wish I can have one house in the sky like this one.
This Flying Saucer House or Chemosphere must be one of the iconic building when the tourist visit Hollywood Hills. Can we go up there for a scene viewing or have a meal?
There is a tallest building in the capital of my country, Kuala Lumpur, K.L Tower, we can have a meal at the top level of the tower, but off course we have to pay for a bit extra if compared to having a meal in the land. :P
i went to california in 2016 didnt know about that house...hmm
