The biblical counseling about marriage relationship in the epistle to the Ephesians started with “wives”. Read,” Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord” (Ephesians 5:22).The reason is because most marital problems start with wives. This is because it is the woman who actually joins the man in a marital relationship. The story of the garden of Eden throws light to this.” Now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden 🙁 Genesis 3:1-2) It is not good to readily believe and welcome an outsider’s offer than the idea of your spouse. Was it because Adam was away that Eve welcomed a wicked visitor (Satan). No! Sometimes a man may be there in the house, yet a wife will be roasting inside herself. What goes on in the heart matters a lot! If Eve had waited for Adam to return and she presents the offer from the serpent, the mistake would have been averted. This is because Adam had a higher will-power than Eve. A wife should not act in isolation. A wife should open her heart to her husband before taking actions to enable her marriage to grow. Most wives feel cheated, hated and marginalized in their own home. Some sob and murmur without letting their husbands know of their problems. Sometimes, a little joke from their husbands or people around them triggers them off-countenance .Spinsterhood lifestyle cannot continue after marriage. A wife should realize that she herself and another person, her husband, not even her brother, are now partners. She could not be understood if she does not confide in her husband first. The ability to control this behavior will go a long way to giving them inner peace. She should carry all her problems to her husband. “Submit to your husband” means to yield to the control of your husband, to present your problems to your husband for decision and consideration. A wife can also suggest to her husband if need be and must not insist on her suggestion. It is the husband that takes the final decision on all matters in a marriage. “As unto the Lord” means that a wife should respect and submit all about her to her husband as if she is doing same to our Lord Jesus Christ in prayers. A woman who does not respect her husband cannot respect our Lord Jesus Christ if she sees Him physically. If a wife loves her husband, the Lord will hear her prayers. This is because” the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body, Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be subject to their own husbands in everything. ”(Ephesians 5:23-24). Here is a WHATSAPP status, by another wife. She wrote,” a wise wife respects and treats her husband as a dad in the sitting room, as a King on the dining table, as a president in the public and as a baby in the bedroom”. Wives who apply this creed keep the peace and respect of their marital relationship. Remember, the scriptures rightly affirm that a wife” will do him (her husband) good and not evil all the days of her life.(Proverbs 31:12) .The reciprocation is that their husbands will love them with passion as long as they live together.
