There are some shows I have watched online which I can recommend. These are well written, well acted, and give you an enjoyable experience.
As all the episodes for completed series are available you can watch as many or as few as you desire at the times you desire.
Some of the shows I recommend were ‘mini-series’ which means they have a beginning, middle and end.
Among these are Band of Brothers, The Night Manager, Shogun and probably Downton Abbey which is longer than the others.
Watching more than one episode at a sitting may be tempting, but I would limit the viewing because when they are over you have a sense of ‘loss’. You’ve enjoyed them so much, you’ve become so interested that you feel viewing the last episode is attending a funeral.
To offset the pain, you mix them with long running series. Burn Notice, Hawaii 50, Blue Bloods, are just some which are quite good.
The mini-series are, unlike long running serials, presented as one would a motion picture. There is a gravity to them, a seriousness that is absent from the weekly shows. They are mini-series because they can not be motion pictures.
One could not, for example, tell the story of Shogan in 90 minutes, and if you have read the book, you might feel that they truncated too much as it could be a few episodes longer.
I find that locating series and mini-series you had missed or saw a long time ago is the best way to watch television programmes.
Instead of being chained to the station’s schedule, having to put up with commercial breaks, and inconvenient airings, one can watch the episodes on line in lieu of watching them on television when one has the time, not the time the station decides.
Other programmes which are well worth the watch are Merlin, Sherlock (which is supposed to return), Foyle’s War, and Broadchurch.
