The world is ready for the Olympics, but it does not look like Rio is ready. The Olympics is the biggest sports stage in the world. It is an honor for a county to host the Olympics. I especially love the Summer Olympics. With all the events going on in our world, from mass shootings, to war, to the Zika virus, not much has been said about the thrill of the Olympics. Is the world still going to have the Olympics? I hope so, but I guess it depends on the state of Rio de Janerio.
The state governor of Rio de Janeiro has issued an order declaring a financial state of emergency just 49 days before the Olympics. Say this is not so. The world has been waiting 4 years this event. Not to mention the endless hours the athletes from all over the world have trained in an effort to win Gold for their country. The order issued by interim Gov. Francisco Dornelles states that the “financial calamity” could prevent “the fulfilment of the obligations as a result of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Rio 2016. It is said that the low cost of oil in Brazil is the cause of the financial decline. The world hopes this is not so.
Oil is a major item in Rio de Janerio. It powers all and most of everything. It is a high cost item that can drop in cost quickly or rise quickly again. When there is a decline in oil there is also a decline in power and automobile/transportation services. Also, with the decline in oil, it makes it not profitable to sell oil to other countries as your country will not get a return. There has also been difficulties in essential public services and can even cause a total breakdown in public security, health, education, mobility and environmental management all due to the decline in oil. This could spell out no Summer Olympics.
All may not be lost. The Rio de Janerio government is willing to borrow money to keep the games alive. This is a step in the right direction as hosting the Olympics will bring a ton of revenue to the country. The decision to borrow money is such that there is not need to vote on it, the governor will just sign off o it. The games must go on, it will be too much of a loss for our country if we do not hold the games. The world is watching. This is a lot of pressure, but with less than 45 days left until the Olympic games, it is the best option. It looks like despite this set-back, the games will go on and they will be what the world expects and more. May the best countries take home Gold!!

@oksummer Taking loans is the only way as the State is bound to earn well from these Olympics to be able to return whatever is borrowed. And borrow they must as the world is looking forward to watching a state-of-the-art event.
Great information about this topic.
I had no idea. This is really interesting. I think it is so sad if it is your one chance to do an Olympics and it gets foiled because of something so outside your control.
I sincerely hope the games happen. I've been watching the trails and those athletes are more than ready for the world stage. I'm more of a summer Olympics girl myself. I love swimming and gymnastics!
I'm going to be a party pooper and say that I don't really care, one way or the other. The Olympics have long since ceased to hold any spark of their original meaning. There are now too many professionals competing, too many corporate sponsors, the event has become too much about money and winning at all costs...
It really is so sad. I sure do hope the games are able to go on so many people depend on this. Also it really will be so good for the economy.
I hope so I love the USA Gymnastics competition
I really hope they will still happen, but it is also important that everyone is safe. Thank you for the great information.
The Olympics are indeed a fabulous sporting event which captivates the imagination of almost the entire world for two weeks; I'm convinced, that in spite of all the hardships they will take place and they will be spectacular, and I hope they will also bring profits to the people of Rio de Janeiro.
Great information on this topic, I hope it still continues it is always exciting to watch.
