Locally, Steamed Corn on the Cob is one of many people’s favorite street snack that one can buy throughout the whole year. You don’t have to wait for seasonal time of the year to grab a corn cob. Fresh corns are sold in the wet market, hypermarket in large volume, almost everyday. Sometimes, you can buy each fresh corn at $1 during big sale when the big companies had bought in big bulks. While other times, you may have to fork out more, $2.90 for a pair of corns.
There are a few ways that you can have a good, healthy and nutritious corn meal for your whole family.
Of all the methods mentioned, I love boiling corn cobs in a soup because it is simply easy, all in one soup that produces a lovely natural sweet corn without any seasoning. However, my kids are getting bored of the same old recipe.
Hence, I decided to try my hands on steamed corn cobs which are popularly sold at street hawkers and
night market (known as pasar Malam, which is actually alike “flea market”).
You can buy 1 whole corn on the cob, steamed, brushed with salt and butter for $2.50 which is the same price for a cup corn.
Usually, you will need a big steamer to steam a few corn cobs at once with boiling water. However, I do not own one. So, I used my regular Panasonic rice cooker to do the job with the “steam” function. Since it has the steam function, I had decided to try this corn cob recipe out and surprisingly, it was PERFECT!
It is extremely easy to steam corns in the rice cooker.
Butter
Yield 3-4 persons!
Do not remove all the corn from the rice cooker unless everyone wants to eat immediately.
Leave the remainder corn cobs in the rice cooker to keep warm.
Cold corn cobs do not taste delicious because the sweet corn juice had dried up.

Did you steam the corns with its leaves? My son loves to eat corn too!
I normally cook it in the hot water for time saving, fast!
I found the corn is more expensive nowadays if compared to those old days. It costs RM1.50 or even more per piece. I don't really understand what is the reason behind.
Thus, I not buy very often, just wait when there is some offer, like 5 for RM5. The cheapest I have ever gotten was RM0.50 per piece at the wholesale wet market.
However, it could make me scared on if it contains too much chemical residuals or not. Thus, I did not purchase too many.
The corns from Cameron Highland are very nice to eat, very sweet and have two colours, white and yellow, it could be DNA modified type.
After steaming, apply some butter and salt on the top would make the corn taste even better and sweet, I think. However, I not do in this way very often as I am the lazy type mummy, again. Haha!
