There are many ‘stars’ which never ‘twinkled’.
Arising at a point in time in which they became the cynosure they did (or did not do) something which so totally destroyed their career that they had no career.
I’m going to dance over a few that come to mind, beginning in the late 50s with T.V. ‘stars’.
There was a time being on television was a step down for Actors, like performing in a play in Tulsa and not on Broadway.
Of course now, the television serial, the well received serial. can make a star faster than the box office block buster.
Further, it gives an actor the semblance of a normal life in that the shooting schedule, the place where the serial is shot is often set, so s/he knows her/his free time and can organise his/her life.
In these olden days of which I write, actors and actresses might start in television.
One of the Stars who never twinkled is only recalled by me, I assume, because I loved horses and watched this show.
Further, the blurbers had it that the ‘star’ was going to be the next Elizabeth Taylor.
The never twinkling star was a twelve year old girl called Lori Martin. She had gotten the centre role in ‘National Velvet’ an Americanised version of the motion picture that pushed the aforementioned Elizabeth Taylor to fame.
In this weekly show, Lori Martin was ‘Velvet’, a girl from rural America, a poor girl of a struggling family who obtained this great horse.
Lori Martin was very good in the role. The show as a hit and she obtained a lot of focus. She was so good she was cast in the original Cape Fear movie, although the producer had wanted Hayley Mills.
Lori Martin got very good reviews and it was felt she would go far.
But Miss Martin wasn’t too bright.
She wanted to take off a few years to have a ‘childhood’. So she took off for a few years.
Lori Martin didn’t ‘get’ the fact that Hollywood wanted her now, as is /where is, not in a few years.
She never came back. The few roles she got during the 1960s were virtually ‘extra’ and so she disappeared.
She died in 2010. Unknown.

There are so many aspiring actors or actresses failed because they lack enhancement of their craft. It doesn't mean that you are good looking is enough to be famous. In fact, it wasn't all the case. Most of these lost their limelight so soon.
