Spending time with people or spending time with God

Worshiping the Almighty is there in every religion.  The question is whether it is worth it,   if  it is done neglecting our responsibility towards our fellow beings

Looking at what is happening today worshiping is done setting aside everything else.

I have not read anywhere in  any religious teachings where it is said that we should worship God at the cost of our duties.

A mother will leave her newborn babe to get to a temple, mosque, church as the case may be when the little one in fact  needs to be breast fed at regular hours. The little one needs her mother to be by its side.

Sick people are left to fend for themselves specially those bedridden as those caring for them have a duty to perform – worshiping God.

All that time spent in all these holy places runs into number of man years. A throng of 10,000 spending an hour each for example  would have lost 10,000 man hours. This is only a tip of the iceberg. This goes on in every corner of the world.

We are taught to believe that God is everywhere, more so in us. All what one needs to do is to keep themselves clean from every sin so that they can Welcome God there and worship Him.

Worshiping should be done through caring for our fellow beings.

There is a hymn that clearly states that. Here is the first line.

“Whatsoever you do to the least of my brethren that you do unto me” and the words go on.

I truly believe by doing my duties caring for my household, my pets, my garden and those who I need to give care I would have worshiped God through these activities.

The amount of money that is spent these days putting up places of worship is mind boggling. If the same amount is distributed to the needy I am sure God will be happier. Worse is when gifts are offered. They run into millions of dollars just hibernating and collecting dust unless some unscrupulous elements grab them.

This does not mean God should not be worshiped.

These are the words of Jesus “Give what is Caesar’s to Caesar and what is God’s to God

It is time this  thought . …  about the fact that God would appreciate our service to fellow beings than spending time at religious places goes viral .

    • @bestwriter I heartily agree with you that worship in the temple should not overshadow our relationships with the rest of humanity and with Creation. We should note the Jesus spent time among the people, much more often than in any temple.

The word religion comes to us from a Latin root that means, "to bind back again." I have always believed the purpose of any religion should be to help us create and strengthen connections, not to impede or destroy them.
