Sorry, I have no enough education fund for you, my dear child!

I have two kids with me, let them to have basic education level and pursue higher education till Bachelor degree program is my duty as their parent.

They can study their Bachelor degree program at the local government owned universities with the education fee at below MYR (Malaysia Ringgit) 20,000, or equivalent to about USD5,000 for 3 years program.

Plus the tuition, stationery, and daily spending, the 3 years campus life might take up about MYR 60,000 or about USD13,000 of my saving for each child.

However, they might not able to enter the government owned universities  if they are not taking the government examination when they are at Pre-U level or study in the private school.

If this is the case, the education cost for each child might surge up more than MYR100,000 or equivalent to USD20,000 for studying in the private college in the country. This not even included their living expensive during the campus life.

Some financial advisors around me always suggest me to purchase some investment-link fund insurance policy or mutual fund for paying the children’s education cost in 15-20 years later.

However, I simply the premium cost is a bit pricey and not affordable for me. Thus, I don’t take up their advice.

Thus, my strategies on preparing the education fund of the kids are:

  1. Invest some good quality equity stocks. All these investment are for the children education fund and my retirement purpose. I might cash out some investment when the child is entering private college or university.
  2. Invest MYR200 in a growth type equity mutual fund for accumulating some funds for the children education purpose every month. However, this investment might not enough to cover the whole amount of the education fee, thus I always tell my children, they might need to take up a education loan and repay when they graduated and have a job later.
  3. Apply for scholarship. The children should study hard and apply for scholarship to cover their fee by themselves.
  4. Go and study at those education free country , like Germany. I will prefer to send my children and study abroad in those providing free education countries. So, my saving is only enough to buy them air ticket. That’s it!

Please feel free to share your ideas or strategy on accumulating the education fund for your children.

    • it is hard to say that, but if that is life then we have to accept it, some can not offer life also to their kids, little better than more, and as human we always want more and more, and that keep life going, to learn is great, but some learn in the schools and university but they are rude, no manners, life is the best and biggest school. if they can not learn from schools then learn from life, its better school any way, you can not live without life learning, experience and communicating is the best school in the life ever absolutely, so accept what you have and try to reach the sky but if you could not its ok try some thing else, no body at all ever ever ever has all the life offers, some has this and some has that, some has bigger quantity from this and some has less from that. Its life and thats it
