Song of the Day – Day 19 – Hey Jude

Welcome to my 19^th post in my song of the day series. Today’s song in Hey Jude by The Beatles. Now I am going to start this post of controversially by stating that I am in fact not a fan of the Beatles, I am aware that may offend a lot of people but it is the truth and I am a fan of telling the truth. I do however like some of their songs and Hey Jude is one of them. My father on the other hand was a huge Beatles fan. The song was actually written about Julian John Lennon’s son to help him get through his parents’ divorce but was developed into Hey Jude instead of Hey Jules.  It was released in 1968 and at the time was the longest ever single to chart at 7 minutes 11 seconds long.

Hey Jude was a worldwide success upon its release and hit the top spot in the charts of 18 countries as well as hitting top 5 spots in a further 4 countries. It is number 10 in the all-time US chart. It is certified 4x Platinum in the US, Unfortunalty I could not find the certification levels for other countries but as the single sold over 8 million copies worldwide it is fair to say that it gained a few gold disks at least.

Quite repetative lyrics at the end but that doesn’t take away from the quality of the song.
