So, my song of the day series has become an ongoing series and not just limited to April, now although that is bad because it means I am being really slow. It is also good because it means I am not limited to 30 days. It is also good because on days where I have some time I can write a lot of days as I am currently 24 days behind schedule. Now considering I have only been doing this for 38 days that is a pretty poor show but I have been super busy which I will tell you all about in another post.
For now we are on day 16 and the song is : Bridge over troubles water by Simon and Garfunkel.
Simon and Garfunkel are one of my favourite artists of all time and this is one of my favourites but them. I know I am not alone in my love for this song as it has over 41,000,000 plays on Spotify not to mention all the other streaming networks. It is also ranked number 48 in the Rolling Stones 500 greatest songs of all time. The song was recorded in 1969 and released in 1970 and was very successful reaching the top of the charts in 5 countries including the US and UK as well as charting well in a further 10 countries. It is certified Gold in the US meaning it sold over 1,000,000 singles.
It was such a well-received song that it was covered by the legends that are Elvis and Aretha Franklin, you can’t really beat the for acclaim.
Here are the beautiful Lyrics:
When you’re weary, feeling small
When tears are in your eyes, I’ll dry them all (all)
I’m on your side, oh, when times get rough
And friends just can’t be found
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
When you’re down and out
When you’re on the street
When evening falls so hard
I will comfort you (ooo)
I’ll take your part, oh, when darkness comes
And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will lay me down
Sail on silver girl
Sail on by
Your time has come to shine
All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine
Oh, if you need a friend
I’m sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water
I will ease your mind

I love this song, I find it inspiring and poetic. Seems so uplifting especially when you are in troubled and don't know what to do. Maybe, Simon and Garfunkel made this song to help other people who are in troubled.
The songs of this generations are livelier but lack the inspiration from the lyrics. The songs of golden years are more on heart and meaning and not just the beautiful sound but the beautiful mind.
I totally agree although I find modern music great for when I am going for a run and need something upbeat and lively I don't think you can beat the 60s and 70s for poetic lyrics and meaningful messages. I love songs that tell a really beautiful story or a sad one even.
