This is one of my favourite songs of all time. It was released in 1979 by Pink Floyd. It is part of a three-song series written by the musical genius Roger Waters. The song is a protest song against the stringent and uninspiring educational systems in the UK, including public and private schools.
Although Pink Floyd are regarded as one of the biggest artist of all times, this was their only number 1 hit in the UK. It sold 4 million copies word wide and is included in the Rolling Stones top 500 songs of all time at number 375. I personally think it should have been a lot higher than that.
The song is in the progressive Rock genre which covered a wide range of styles. It was released on the album ‘The Wall’ which was one of Pink Floyds most commercially successful albums. It was released under 2 different Record Labels Harvest in the UK and Columbia in the US.
The Single hit the top of the charts in 17 different countries, and re-entered the charts in France at number 112 in 2002. It went Platinum in the UK and the US and Gold in France, Germany, Italy, and Spain.
Here are the song Lyrics:
We don’t need no education
We don’t need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave them kids alone
Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone
All in all it’s just another brick in the wall
All in all you’re just another brick in the wall
We don’t need no education
We don’t need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
Teachers leave those kids alone
Hey! Teachers! Leave those kids alone
All in all you’re just another brick in the wall
All in all you’re just another brick in the wall
“Wrong, do it again!”
“If you don’t eat yer meat, you can’t have any pudding
How can you have any pudding if you don’t eat yer meat?”
“You! Yes, you behind the bike sheds, stand still laddy!”

Oh! Are you starting a Song of the Day blog post series? I love this song!!
I was thinking of doing so. Not sure how many people would be interested in reading it but I love writing about music so it would be fun for me :) It is a great song isn't it x
Well if you do a series, you've got one fan because you're picking music that is woven into the tapestry of my life, especially my high school and university years.
