We never really know what someone is going or has gone through. We can only assume and assuming seems to be the way of the world. There’s people who have offered us melodies and harmonies and do we remember what they’ve given us? We’re going to remember a very talented artist, singer, and former model. Remembering Phyllis Hyman. She would blow those lyrics and although most of her songs were sad and songs reflecting on a broken heart. They touched people and perhaps go them to think a little deeper.
Some of her songs are:
1. Living all Alone
2. No one can Love you More
3. Somewhere in my Lifetime
4, Gonna Make Changes
5. Don’t Wanna Change the World
The lyrics were sensational, emotional, and personal. Imagine those sounds today. How would the younger generation react to jazzy music and the style that was produced by Phyllis Hyman? They may not want to listen to such music. Her style was certainly unique and so many adored her. We may continue to listen to her music and no one who can sing the way Phyllis Hyman could sing should be placed on a shelf and forgotten.
Phyllis Hyman was a class act no doubt but she also dealt with some troubling issues that perhaps no one could deal with or refused to understand. She seemed to live a happy on the outside but sad on the inside kind of life. Anyone who came in contact with her loved her but just couldn’t remain in her life. Phyllis Hyman suffered from depression and she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
Although Phyllis Hyman was riddled with pain but when she got on stage, she would perform like nothing was wrong, she connected with her audience. Her voice was unique and she also had a special talent. Phyllis would blow like trumpet and she scat (jazz singing). Her abilities were amazing and perhaps people didn’t appreciate her the way that she felt they should have.
There was something deep down in Phyllis Hyman that no one could seem to connect with. She had siblings that loved her and they couldn’t prevent the outcome. We don’t hear any sounds like Phyllis Hyman’s sounds in our world today. That sort of talent can’t be duplicated.
Phyllis Hyman was due to perform on “The Apollo” on June 30th 1995 but the performance didn’t occur because Phyllis Hyman committed suicide. Phyllis was 45 years of age. She attempted suicide before succeeding in 1995. Her memory lingers on but how can we not think about the pain that she felt and no one being able to understand her suffering or save her from such a devastating outcome?
Soon there will be songs played as a tribute to Phyllis Hyman. “A Song Bird That Flew Away.”

I am not familiar with this singer, Phyllis Hyman. She's already dead in 1995. That was 21 years ago. What is her nationality? I try to listen to her music, especially the video that you have attached here. Sad to tell you, it didn't work in my end. The video didn't play and the song, “A Song Bird That ” didn't exist when I search it in the web. What's wrong?
She didn't have a song titled a "A Song Bird." That's the title I choose for the post. I'm sorry the video didn't work on your end but if you go to Youtube then you can hear her music. Hopefully you'll listen to her music and enjoy it. She offered the world her God given talent and that's what we all can and should do. Have a blessed day!
If I'm not mistaken, one of her popular songs was "Old friend"? It was a good song about getting back together with an ex-lover. Yes, I do miss that voice. That good quality voice that could only be identified as Phyllis Hyman.
If you're referring to the song yes, it was popular, but if you're referring to Tanikka Paulk as being an old friend to someone that's incorrect. A friend perhaps but not yet old. She had a very unique style and voice. Can't be duplicated. She made her mark on earth and it's so sad that she took her life. Her music was emotional and if one listened closely they could hear the pain in her voice.
There are many useful people in the movie industry that ended their lives in the wrong way. They never knew how they were loved and will be loved for they contributed much happiness to people in the world. The obvious reasons are either drug abuse, depression and sickness.
We've lost a lot of important people who thought they weren't loved. Some were diagnosed with depression but some other issues could be the root cause for their abuse to themselves. There's people who look fine outwardly but are going through troubles within. Phyllis was a singer, actress, and model. She never accepted the others loved her. First one has to love themselves and then they'll know the love of others. God and Jesus's love is the best love of them all.
