Some Television Serials Do Get Better

If you watched Grey’s Anatomy, on line, meaning no commercial interrupts, allowing you can watch as many episodes at a sitting as you desire,  you might, after a few viewing, find it a bit repellent.

The writer seems to have a problem with human interactions; especially love relationships.

The females are peculiar in that give their bodies rather easily, but keep themselves aloof.

As anyone who has ever been in love knows, you give your soul before you body.  You feel the emotion of love long before there is any sexual connection.   If you don’t feel that love then unless you are a gold digger or have some other agenda, you don’t make it into the bedroom.

So, the female characters remained rather unsavoury, starting from the first episode.

The male characters were rather weak and compliant.  A man will pursue a woman, but if she makes it difficult, he’ll move on.   In Grey’s it is as if the male is ‘trapped’.   The limitations of these patterns becomes annoying, for not every woman is strong, not every man is weak.  Not every woman has sex before the relationship begins. Save in Grey’s Anatomy.

The first seasons annoyed for these reasons.  As time moved on and the plots became a bit better and unexpected, and as other characters took more screen time, the show begins to surprise with interesting and forceful plots.

Yes, all the female characters are rather the same,  and react the same, so that it doesn’t matter if it is April Kepner or Meredith Grey, the same attitude, the same words.

However, moving past that, the stories have become a bit better constructed.

Unlike shows which you watch a season or two, or an episode or two and then say, ‘Nahh’, Grey’s Anatomy does have the ability to keep the attention and to be worth viewing.
