Sing away to better breath

We all tend to be in a hurry gasping for time and that includes breathing. We never take full breaths and are breaths are normally shallow. This affects our lungs to a great extent leading to lung ailments. And with  those with lung ailments this shallow breathing aggravates the disease.

Of all the care one takes to ensure good health the most important there is getting enough oxygen to the body and proper breathing ensures  ensures that .

Shallow breathing takes in less oxygen and less oxygen to the body could mean a cursor pointing towards other ailments too.

There are,  no doubt breathing exercises that are recommended but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that singing helps expand our lungs.

Because of shallow breathing our lungs are not capable of managing more than an octave. With constant singing this can improve.

Apart from bathroom singing, joining a choir or a singing group helps as there,  one is under an expert choir master who knows the art of breathing and singing. There are expert voice trainers too.  Those who do not have the facility to  join a group there are courses on the Net that help.

Singing can aid in coping with   the lung disease Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, or COPD. Those with this disease gasp for breath that worsens the situation while singing involves the entire  muscles  around the lungs, throat and the upper chest gradually improving them to perform better. It will not happen overnight but it will surely help cope with the disease gradually.

Singing takes the mind off worries of the day –  a sure way to relax it.

Proper breathing help one  to sing better and singing helps one breathe better. Better breathing in other words is better life.

    • I do love singing. It has developed for my elder brother is a very good operatic singer. He used to sing the songs popularized by Mario Lanza. I remember there was an occasion which called for an amateur singing contest. I participated and he also participated in the adult category. Luckily I won the first place and he was the second. The judge didn't know that we're brothers for he told me to change my name and also not to divulge that we are related. It was the experience I couldn't forget. Now my brother is gone several years already.

      • So we have a singer here. How about a post on this and uploading any of your songs. Sad to hear your brother is no more. My brother too loved to sing although because of his asthma it was tough. He was into conducting choirs.

    • I will have to mention this study to my father. He was recently diagnosed with COPD. He used to sing a lot in his youth, so this might be a pleasant therapy for him.

      • I feel so happy that someone perhaps could benefit from this study. Good Luck to your father. Actually I discovered this myself when I could breathe better when I sang higher notes.
