Shaping Cacao Industry

Who wants some chocolate? What, chocolates are out of stock? Why, why there is no chocolate? No cocoa because there are no cacao trees bearing fruits.

I just learned one seminar I attended that cacao have a big market if only given the chance to shape up in the country. In the said forum while the Philippines needed 50,000 tons cacao production only 10,000 tons are being produced yearly. That is to way below the demand in the Philippines alone.

Oh no, does that mean the news is true that there will be scarcity of chocolates in 2020? If that happens, does that mean there will be no more truffles for me, no chocolate with almonds, no white chocolates among others?

This is bad because it’s our entire favorite. Besides, there is substitute for cacao to make chocolates aside from cacao.

So now, to address this problem on demand of cacao fruit that is needed to make chocolate, the government now is shaping the cacao industry in the country urging people to plant cacao plant in the regions in the Philippine.

Where are the producers of cacao in the Philippines?

Cacao production is being produced in southern Philippines particular in Mindanao. Most of the cacao fruits come from here. But only in the southern, so the production is not enough. They need to shape the production also in the northern part of the country.

Now, a group of farmers are interested in producing cacao products in the Ilocoss region. They wanted to plant cacao trees. The only problem is where to get the good kind of cacao variety that can bear fruit in the short period of time.

The group made a seminars and orientation regarding this matter. The group of farmers, cooperatives and the agriculturists from government and private got one purpose, to flourish the cacao industry in the Philippines.

The mission now: to solve the scarcity of chocolates in the year 2020.

    • Is it so important for the Philippines? They can increase their Agricultural Products which are useful for the people and to the country.

They can get many crops that can be taken up. But, insisting only on the production and development of Cocoa Crop may perhaps be not correct.

      • I have learned that planting cacao is not as easy as 1+1=2. Cacao need the right technology and strategy so it would bear more fruits. This also include to the fact that cacao don't just bear fruit anywhere but it prefer the hilly part of the region. The tree should also have more than 50 fruits and not just 3 fruits. All of this need attention from the farmer and with the help of agricultural technologist. If not, goodbye chocolates.
