Rosewood; Why you should watch this show

Rosewood is an American police procedural drama series which stars Morris Chestnut as Dr. Beaumont Rosewood Jr., a private pathologist working in Miami, Florida.

He is brilliant, a true people person, who makes friends and shows a lot of interest in everyone around him.

He meets Detective Annalise Villa, (played by Jaina Lee Ortiz) from the Miami police,  who is at first somewhat annoyed by him, doesn’t want him in her circle, but softens over time.

He has a secret; he is dying. He has a bad heart and although trying to exercise and keep his spirits up, there seems no hope.

He keeps this secret buried fairly deeply and appears a happy, easy guy.

Detective Villa also has something in her past; her husband, whom she loved so much, died abruptly in front of her because of a heart attack. She had been in New York when it happened, so returned to Miami, where she was born, and has no one in her life.

Where Rosewood, (called Rosie) doesn’t let his past control him, Villa needs psychiatric counseling to overcome her grief.

The comparisons between Rosewood’s fantastic deductive ability and that of Sherlock Holmes in Elementary are impossible to escape.

Holmes is repulsive. He is cold, almost inhuman, selfish, and takes no one else into consideration.

Rosewood is the exact opposite. He considers other people at all times, is always reaching out.

The plots of Rosewood have the ‘gift’ of letting the viewer into the clues as he sees them. Unlike Sherlock and Elementary where ‘out of nowhere’ they pop up with observations which the viewer would have missed, in Rosewood there is a letting the viewer see what is seen, and when the explanation arrives, it answers what the viewer might be asking.

I find that watching Rosewood in conjunction with Elementary is rather interesting to see how both characters come to the conclusions, the first painlessly, the second rather gruffly.

    • The show sounds interesting from what you've shared about it. I generally enjoy watching these types of dramas but haven't had the time to watch any lately. I never started watching Elementary but I will watch the first episode of both of these shows and see if I like them. I've heard good things about them.
