Review: Mediheal Aloe Vera HydroGel

Korean skincare products are on the rise. Blame it on the Korean skincare fanatics (like me!) who always rave about these skin care products slowly dominating the world of skin care these days! Apart from the fact that Koreans are really impressive with their marketing approach (cute and colorful packaging to entice you to buy!), it is very common to find a beauty blogger who also loves to use these products for their personal use!

I have recently discovered a lot of Korean skincare products that really worked well (and cheap) for my skin. And one of those is this tub of Mediheal Aloe Vera HydroGel. It’s been a while since I had this product. I remember that it is one of my early eBay auction wins so I definitely bought it a good price. If I remember correctly, I bought it for $7.50 at the time this tub was priced at around $10~. The item also included free shipping so it was definitely a great deal. The only “downside” (if I can even call it that) is that I have to wait for the item to arrive in 2 weeks. In any case, I didn’t use the gel not until after a month of having it inside my cabinet. So the waiting time for the shipping was nothing.
Now, let’s talk about the product. The plastic container was thick and sturdy – and it is great to keep the content intact. This 300g packaging was really heavy and when I opened the container, it was filled to the brim! So I can say that I am happy to see that much product inside the tub.
Once you open the tub, there is a clear plastic lid separating the cap from the aloe vera gel. I think this is a great way to make sure that the content remains inside and won’t leak even after breaking the seal. Having said that, I found the clear lid a bit difficult to lift. So to make sure not to contaminate the remaining product inside the tub, you still need to wash your hand before opening and get enough product in one go – no double dipping!
The product itself is clear and thick. It reminded me of Jell-O, LOL! It is also light-scented but easily wears off after a couple of minutes.
I am using this product for two main purposes. First, as a first layer to hydrate my skin. And second, as a rinse-off face mask.
To use for skin hydration, I get about half a thumb-size amount and spread it evenly on my face and neck. It quickly dries. But I let the product sit there for about 20-30 minutes before I apply the next moisturizing product (usually oil-based moisturizer).
To use as a rinse-off face mask, I simply get double or triple the amount I usually get for hydration and apply evenly on my face. I let it sit there for about 20 minutes and wash with water.
Some prefer to keep this in the fridge to have a cool feeling while applying. I just put it inside my bathroom cabinet and thought that I still get the cooling effect from the gel – so refreshing!
Overall, I really like this product. In fact, I bought my second tub from another eBay auction win!

    • I was a distributor for Forever Living Products,USA for their range of products based on aloe vera. Looks like many companies are getting into this business.

      • Oh, it is! It is actually a really popular trend in Korean skincare these days and I noticed some online sellers spike the prices on these tubs, especially during summer. I am lucky I found a suitable product for my skin minus the overwhelming price tag.

    • I have good things about the Aloe Vera gal it has some really good benefits when you think about it. Sometimes am really scared of ordering anything to did with my body online. I always have these thoughts that they might not be genuine products. They could work or not work out for you. But all in all I think people are different so it could happen either way. I have Aloe Vera grown in my garden and I sometimes use it on my face as a face mask and the results are fantastic so I agree with you on this.

      • Oh, if only I have a potted aloe vera plant - I wouldn't buy these, too! We had a pot at my parents' house and used it extensively on my scalp since I had thin hair as a child. I also try to do some DIY skincare regimen but can't use a lot of those (or do everything DIY) since I don't use too much and it would end up getting spoiled if unused.

    • I don't use very many skincare products. But I know for certain that the ones with aloe vera are good. Some are better than others.

      • I know what you mean. My husband is the same that he rarely tries new products or always sticks to the ones he has been using for a long time. I am just lucky this brand suits my skin and didn't cause me any damage!

    • Aloe vera have been one of the no secrets beauty regimen but with lots of beauty products sprouting in the market, it has not been used lately. But in our place, women use it in practical way, they have some pots of aloe vera plant and they once in a while I see them harvesting some good leaves for their beauty regimen.

      • I think that's what Asian beauty (Korean skincare in particular) is after: they want to bring back the more natural ways to take care of our skin using these natural ingredients and mix it with modern technology. I think it is good!

      • Haven't tried to put it on sun burnt skin but I can just imagine the feeling! I love using this as face mask when the weather is really warm and does a great deal to my skin to freshen up!

    • Aloe vera is a popular medicinal plant that has been used for thousands of years. It is best known for treating skin injuries, but also has several other beneficial effects on health. Aloe vera is a thick, short-stemmed plant that stores water in its leaves.

It is widely used in the cosmetic, pharmaceutical and food industries, and has an estimated annual market value of $13 billion globally (1).

Aloe vera is well recognized by its thick, pointed and fleshy green leaves, which can grow to about 12-19 inches (30-50 cm) in length. Each leaf is full of a slimy tissue that stores water, which makes the leaves thick. This slimy, water-filled tissue is the “gel” we associate with Aloe vera products. The gel contains most of the bioactive compounds in the plant, including vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants.

      Antioxidants are important for health.

Aloe vera gel contains powerful antioxidants, which belong to a large family of substances known as polyphenols

These polyphenols, along with several other compounds in Aloe vera, can help inhibit the growth of certain bacteria that can cause infections in humans, Aloe vera is most commonly used as a topical medication, rubbed onto the skin rather than eaten.

It has long been known as a treatment for sores, particularly burns, including sunburns.

In fact, the FDA first approved Aloe vera ointment as an over-the-counter medication for skin burns back in 1959.

Studies suggest that it is an effective topical treatment for first- and second-degree burns.

A review of 4 experimental studies found that Aloe vera could reduce the healing time of burns by around 9 days compared to conventional medication

The evidence for Aloe vera helping to heal other types of wounds is inconclusive, Tooth decay and diseases of the gum are very common health problems.

One of the best ways to prevent this from happening is to reduce the buildup of plaque (bacterial biofilms) on the teeth.

In a mouth rinse study of 300 healthy people, 100% pure Aloe vera juice was compared to the standard mouthwash ingredient chlorhexidine.

After 4 days of use, the Aloe vera mouth rinse was found to be just as effective as chlorhexidine in reducing dental plaque

Another study found similar benefits of Aloe vera mouth rinse when used over a 15- to 30-day period

Aloe vera does this by killing the plaque-producing bacterium Streptococcus mutans in the mouth, as well as the yeast Candida albicans

    • I damn fed up using these skin care product. I am having dry skin and during summer the face will become lifeless. I have been searching for good skin care product. Finally, Patanjali Yoga Center has advised me to dispense with this product and go for natural herbal products which I am using now.
The skin care products are suitable only for some people and are not suitable for each and everyone as a universal rule and such product is not designed so far.
I generally apply curd and honey and prepare my own pack and this will be a very nice product for the skin. I will explain it separately in my post.

    • I like to share the Aloe Vera hydro gel.My grandparents told me that Aloe Vera juice I meant the liquid came from Aloe Vera is good to apply for the face to get all the acne or to make the face looking beautiful..
