Quite often we hear that these days the beauty standards for women are particularly the underlying. Concept of beauty has changed since ancient times. For example, in ancient Greece it was magnified facial and body symmetry. In ancient Rome emphasized light skin and curly blonde hair. Medieval times idealized corsets, and the beauty evidence has been considered a pale face. Thus, a cursory look at the history of the beauty concept, it is not surprising that it has changed so far and will surely continue to change.
In today’s society it is also often emphasized outer beauty. Observing the information of the different media, it is easy to notice that often is emphasized the slim body image. It is formed provision that only slim people are nice, and then follow the idea that only beautiful people can be happy and loved. Of course, it is hard to resist this image, especially when it is presented as a successful model of man. We all want to be successful, so the visible body image often becomes as aspiration.
However, we should keep in mind that different standards of beauty are often too perfectionistic. It is natural that seeking those standards, we are inclined towards perfectionism. It is not enough still for us, we all time still feel any shortcomings, we demand more and more out of ourselves, until finally we are not able to fulfill our goals. Women are often too critical of their respect.
Mass communication media very affect people: television, Internet and other media. We observe, compare ourselves with visible people are trying to copy. However, we cannot blame only the media and being promoted beauty standards. It can be said that the standards of beauty create the TV, the internet, but we, to a large extent contribute to this.
A woman with high self-esteem will be less inclined to respond to presented society’s standards of beauty. She feels valuable by herself. And the woman who gives the big weight to the appearance, usually is paying much attention to the beauty standards presented by society. But in all cases, the first place goes to a woman self-esteem.
Of course, appearance is one of the aspects of self-esteem, but not the main one. Beauty standards only reinforce the already existing problem of self-esteem. The formation of self-esteem begins in the family. Later, we are influenced by the social environment. At different stages of life people prefer different things. To the external beauty more attention is initiated at adolescence.
In the adolescence endless desire to meet the standards of beauty often is associated with a variety of eating disorders. It is very important that a person from the close environmental would take strong values and adequate self-perception. If a man will have it, the beauty standards highlighted in a society will have little effect on the behavior and well-being. So, much importance goes to the closest people.
In general, standards of beauty is only part of what we see. Often in our environment we hear a lot of evaluations for appearance – beautiful, not so beautiful, and very unsightly. We ourselves invent rules, which then not only do not help to live happily, but even complicate our daily life. So it is with today’s beauty standards.
