Quick Meal: Spicy Prawn Pitta

I wanted to prepare a light, simple and fast meal for lunch.

I don’t have time to spend 30 minutes to an hour for an 

elaborate cooking after spending 2 hours of grocery 

shopping at Tesco.

Tired, hungry and craving for a burger, I decided to have 

Spicy Prawn Pitta Bread for a quick lunch.

A perfect prawn pitta that can be ready in 15 minutes.

Luckily, earlier on when I was at Tesco, I had bought a bag 

of pitta breads, a head of iceberg lettuce and a few fresh 

tomatoes.

The pitta breads were whole wheat pittas, low in calories

 and healthy, better than plain pittas.

Found some fresh prawns sold at 20% off from normal 

price at the fish section. 

Couldn’t get my eyes off as I was craving for them.

With the  pittas, prawns and other ingredients in hand, 

this seafood recipe was an ideal lunch recipe to satisfy 

my hunger.

 

 

Spicy Prawn Pitta

Yield: 4 persons

Calories: 150 per serving

 

Ingredients:

  • 150ml / 5fl oz – low fat original yogurt
  • 2inch cucumber- peeled and chopped finely
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • A little cayenne pepper
  • 2 tsp tomato sauce
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 80z/240g peeled and pre-cooked prawns
  • 4 pieces of pitta breads or hotdog buns
  • Some iceberg lettuce-washed and shredded
  • 2 small tomatoes-sliced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

 

Instructions

1. In a mixing bowl, mix yogurt, cucumber, paprika, 

cayenne pepper and tomato sauce with lemon juice.

2. Add in the pre-cooked prawns and stir well.

3. Cut the pitta breads into halves, vertically.

4. Toast the pitta breads in a toaster or oven.

5. Spread across the bottom pitta bread with shredded

 lettuce, sliced tomatoes.

6. Spoon in the prawn mixture.

7. Season with salt and pepper.

8. Cover with the top pitta bread.

9. Serve immediately with fruit juice or smoothies.

 

 

Prawns benefits

Most people had longed viewed that prawns are high in 

cholesterol, which are not highly sought in the wet market.

This is untrue, if you consume once in a while.

Yes, prawns do consist cholesterol but it won’t land you

 into high blood pressure as long as you don’t consume

 them often.

Calcium

Iodine

Zinc

Perfect way to cook prawns

Cooking prawns in the right way, could help you to reduce

 the cholesterol level instead of increasing it.

Avoid deep fried prawns, prawns in coconut curry stew or

 butter prawns.

 

Here are some tips how to cook prawns in a healthy way:

 

Go for grilled prawns with olive oil instead of butter

stir fried prawns with vegetables not more than 4 minutes

Cook prawns in low fire, use a little olive oil or sunflower

oil

Steam prawns separately.

 Then saute the separate sauce and splash over the steamed

 prawns.

 

Low fat yogurt

Choose low fat original yogurt instead of mixed fruit

yogurt for this pitta recipe.

Store bought yogurt with mixed fruits such as berries, 

strawberries and kiwi are added with sugar and flavorings

 in order to enhance the sweet flavor. 

Normally original low fat yogurt tasted bland and sourish.

However, these low fat yogurt are healthier because it is 

made from fermenting low far milk, suitable for children,

 teens and adults consumption.

It is extremely low in calories, helps to improve digestive 

system which induce smoother bowel movements.

Hence, it helps to reduce constipation for both men and

 women.

It also helps to reduce white vaginal discharge for ladies.

 

Tips

It is best not to choose fruity yogurt when mixing with 

cooked prawns, cucumber and tomato sauce.

It will produce a weird flavor , not spicy nor sweet but odd

 taste.

      pitta bread
      2 tablespoons mayonnaise
      1 teaspoon ketchup
      drop of horseradish sauce
      sprinkle of cayenne pepper
      splash of lemon juice
      1 small avacado
      60g (2 oz) cooked, peeled prawns
      small handful of watercress

      Method
      Prep:10min › Ready in:10min
      Place pitta bread in toaster and leave until it puffs out. Cut off end of pitta bread and stick a knife inside to open up the pocket.
      In a bowl place the mayonnaise, ketchup, horseradish, cayenne pepper and a splash of lemon juice. Combine.
      Chop up avacado and add to sauce along with prawns.
      Rip up some watercress and add to the bowl.
      Combine and spoon the mixture into the the pitta bread!

      I think that These perfect prawn pittas are delicious with the perfect tangy sauce (very similar to marie rose), watercress and avocado! I love prawn sandwiches but this is a great twist on the ordinary sandwich.
