I started to have the habit of consuming salads a few years back when I decided to lose those extra weights without going through the losing weight program.
I am glad to say that eating salads is one of the best method to lose weight, benefits your health and provide more fibre to allow smooth bowel movements for those with constipation problems.
One of the ingredients that I had never tried in my salad recipes is the Cottage cheese.
My mom used to say that cheese is a powerpack ingredient that provide energy and makes your stomach feel fuller if you add into salads, besides the cooked shreds of chicken!
Hence, I decided to add in COttage cheese into a bowl of fruits for a change, in addition to diced of cooked ham since I had some left overs from yesterday’s midnight snack.
Now when you buy cottage cheese, remember to look out for “Low fat” labels because some cheese are fatty which is not wise for weight watchers.
If you can’t find any cottage cheese, which it is seasonal in Asian countries, you could replace with cheddar cheese, grated would be best.
As for the fruits, I had chosen whatever that were available in my fridge.
Namely, seedless grapes, which my mother-in-law had given me some a few days ago.
It is wise to remove the seeds from the grapes if you have little kids at home.
You wouldn’t want to see them choking and grasping for breathe, right?
Otherwise, you could replace grapes with chopped kiwi fruit, red apples, fresh oranges, green pears or any local fruits that is available in the market.
Pineapple rings or cubes from a can taste sweeter compare to fresh cut pineapple fruit.
However, refrain from using the pineapple juice from the can which is not healthy.
In addition, you can add in peach from the can or punch cocktail fruits for more colorful salad.
Besides that , I had added in a few slices of cooked ham, all diced up into the salad bowl.
Alternatively, you could add in cooked hotdog or slices of cooked chicken strips.
Honestly, I never missed using left-over chicken meats from the night before dinner. Tasted delicious eventhough it is overnight and chilled.
