The South Korean President is under attack. Choi Soon-sil, her close friend appears to have used that relationship to gain benefits for herself by what is called ‘influence peddling’.
This is not uncommon.
You know Selma is a friend of Minister and so you go to Selma to ask her to speak to Minister about your issue.
In many cases this is the only way you can get an issue in the face of Minister.
It may be innocent, for example telling Selma that the Bull Park Bridge looks like it’s about to collapse, or asking if Minister can speak at the graduation.
And of course, it might not be innocent, such as telling Selma to put in a good word for your company in the recent tender option.
In South Korea, good pal Choi, along with someone who used to work for the President were charged with colluding with Park to pressure companies to contribute funds to the foundations, which are Chois.
Park may have felt the foundations were legitimate and beneficial to the people, but she seemed to miss the fact that considering her position she should not in any way shape or form appear to influence anyone on anything.
Again, she’s not the only one.
Right now, I can think of a Prime Minister who stupidly hired two ‘Aides’ both so worthless I would not permit them to clean my office, save under sharp supervision.
These Aides know nothing, have twisted views, and so the advise they give the PM is more worthless than reading tea leaves. I retract; reading tea leaves might be of more use.
In South Korea, the Samsung company is alleged to have provided 2.8 million euros ($3.1 million) to a company co-owned by Choi and her daughter. This money was paid so that Choi would use her influence to gain backing from a state pension fund for the $8 billion merger of two Samsung Group affiliates, Samsung C&T Corp and Cheil Industries.
The people of South Korea are so upset that hundreds of thousands have taken to the streets of Seoul, the capital, to demand her resignation. Park has refused to resign but has apologized on two occasions.
Not enough obviously.

This is expected in a political world that people close to them will fall to be the users. It is a sad thing that some people changed and the genuine nature of friendship is starting to fade away. There are so many reasons why people changed fast. There is only one reason, that is, to take advantage.
