PAINTING IS NOT SO EASY AS THOUGHT OF

Painting a house..just purchase a can of paint, brush, some turpentine or paint thinner, some duct tape, the job can be done easily by anyone, was my assumption before I ventured upon doing some painting work. I thought it would be just a work of splashing some paint with a brush on some interior of the house and the work will be done. But, it turned out to be quite false. This is not only in the case of painting the interiors but almost in every job.

we can not understand the real effort we have to make for getting the result to our satisfaction unless we experience it getting into it and truly this was what happened with me.

I purchased a painter’s tape, 1 lit white emulsion paint 1 Lit Lacker Paint, from Asian Paints (Good brand), a drop cloth, turpentine (1/2 Lit), The emulsion paint was meant for furniture and the Lacker paint was for the interior wall. I forget to tell you that I also bought 1 Lit Primer.

I started painting the furniture first for practice at first. The paint was light Coco color. It was having a mat finish effect. I have gone through the directions to use and carefully added the turpentine. I took some paint separately into a painter’s tray and added the turpentine to the paint. I applied it very nicely with patience. I noticed that the brush was not moving comfortably from my hand onto the table.  I realized that I had to add some more turpentine. I adjusted the thickness after a series of trials. I was very eager to get the work done as I presumed that it would not take more than half an hour.

I finished the first quote.  It was looking good. I immediately noticed that there was some paint on the floor. I immediately recollected that I had forgotten to spread the drop cloth before taking up the job. This is used mainly to avoid the drops of some paint falling onto the floor making it shabby.

Immediately, I spread the drop cloth and shifted the table over that.

I just wanted to know what are the things I had missed.  Oh…forgot to prepare the table first itself. yes. One should prepare the item for painting. What are the things it requires? They  are;

Take a sand paper and rub the entire surface of the table so that the plane is smooth. See that there is no dirt or holes on the surface. If there are holes apply some paste (meant for it) there and make it smooth., If the surface is having any dark or black spots remove them first to have a smooth go.

If you are painting a wall then you have to tape around the places where the painting is not required. It must be an inch or two beyond the surface area meant for painting in all corners. The electrical fittings must be removed and kept in a safe place. There should be any items kept near the wiring now.

The important thing missed was….yes…applying the Primer. This is a must for any painting work. Unless you apply primer the result will be a big zero.

I kept the paint aside. First applied the Turpentine again onto the surface. This is for removing the paint I applied. I took every caution in removing the paint from the entire surface. Took the sand paper and slowly cleaned the entire surface. Oh..it was a terrible work. I mean an additional work. Washed the surface with a wet cloth and waited till it is dried off.

Now applied the Primer on the surface of the table. It dried off very fast..

Now, I applied my first quote of paint. There I observed a lot of difference between my previous work and the present work. The result is not final yet. There is a second quote I have to make. I did it after the surface is quite dry. The second quote has changed the look of the surface and gave it a good shining. I really felt very happy at it.

Now I realized that the fact that THE RESULT WILL ALWAYS BE DIRECTLY PROPORTIONAL TO THE EFFORT.

When I applied the paint for the first time there was no dedication but some overconfidence and carelessness. It did not give me the result I expected. On the other hand, I wasted my time missing the very procedure out.

It is only the dedication and devotion which always gives the good and expected result.
