So, its controversial! I just don’t know why it’s controversial? Don’t we like a New Nobel Prize winner be well-known to everybody?
I mean, hey, it’s Bob Dylan, he could be our most popular winner because everybody knows him—especially the generation X where the song of Mr. Dylan all over the air waves. Opps, no offense to the previous winners whom only known to their league and not to other people.
Okay, our point of controversy is why Bob? He’s a surprise winner in the Nobel Literature Prize. And why not, because he is popular so we are not expecting him to be a winner. And we all expected is a name which is not popular again in the field—a novelist, a writer, a poet—in that genre.
You see, I’m in favor of Mr. Bob Dylan’s picked it’s not just because I love his songs “Blowin In The Wind”, “Knock On A Heaven’s Door”, “Like A Rolling Stone”, “Forever Young” and other monumental songs he wrote and sang. It’s not just because I like his poet lyrics that makes it as a metaphoric poem or how he sing them beautifully in or out of the stage. It’s not only his popularity in 1960’s which he influenced the young and adults of that era.
It’s more than that. It’s more of the poetry and the songs. It’s how it gives hope to all genres of literature to dream to be named as one of the winner of this very prestigious prize. The Nobel doesn’t need to explain to anybody or somebody. The committee had their qualifications that selected him to be this year’s prize.
As I read the comments of the National Artists for Literature of our country (Philippines), many of them are really in favor of the award to Mr. Dylan: Bienvenido Lumbera, Cirilo F. Bautista among other songwriter, singers and composers.
Let’s bestow this man the laurel he deserve.
