Advertising is an essential part of promoting a product and/or service and there are several ways this can be achieved. Emphasis these days is to go online although one also does it through radio announcements, television, hoardings and the print media. Each of these approaches have different advertising needs.
Openings for jobs relating to advertising need not necessarily be available only with media outlets. Large organisations have their own Public Relations Department where there is a slot especially reserved for creating advertisements for their services and/or products using different approaches. The incumbents seeking such jobs therefore have a larger network to choose from. Whereas the media outlets work for everyone, it is not so when it comes to organisations that are only concerned with their own products and/or services. Each of these set ups have different needs and when applying for a job the incumbent needs to keep this in mind and get equipped accordingly. Not only are the requirements different they have different terms and conditions, including their salary structure.
It has become mandatory these days for the job seeker in the field of advertising to have knowledge to work on the computer and with a bit of ambition one could master whatever one needs to know that would help one with creating online promotions independently.
Job seekers have several slots to choose from. There are openings for copy-writers, web designers, and for those who have a flair for selling. Most of these jobs need creativity and this, one will not find in textbooks. Extroverts would be winners here, as they would have to deal with people to convince them of what has been designed or created and get their approval. The media companies in particular would look for those who would sell their space and such candidates should not only have academic qualifications but have the gift of the gab to ‘sell’ To know the ins and outs of a product and/or service thoroughly, that needs to be sold is of prime importance as it is only then that an effective advertisement could be created. One should have thorough knowledge of the language in which these advertisements would be created and a combination of text and images that sell would yet be a talent a job provider would look for.
There are products and/or services that need to be introduced at a global level. Those who have travelled far and wide and have mixed and mingled with people of different countries would know the humanities better and hence would be more suited for getting employed.
The most effective approach that would help one find a job in advertising would be to register with some of the successful companies who have an updated data bank of jobs available in the area of advertising. These companies have a procedure that requires the incumbent to fill up forms that would be available online, pay the fees fixed by these companies and wait with abated breath to take the next step that would lead them towards their dream job, hopefully!
