Opening of Classes: The School Is Ready

June 13 is the official classes opening of the public elementary schools in our country. This morning we have our management committee meeting (MANCOM) of all school heads of both the elementary and high schools in the public. Our schools division superintendent conducted the meeting.

We have a lot of things taken up. A review of our national maintenance of school was discussed. This annual school maintenance is usually held a week before the regular opening of the school year. Stakeholders or the school benefactors which constitute the parents, the public officials, the private organizations showed their concern by participating in this week-long activities. They donated paints, lumber, galvanized iron, nails, plywood and anything which could be used for the maintenance of the classroom. Some of them especially the parents gave their service by a donation of labor.

This activity is dubbed as “Brigada Eskwela” which prepares every school ready for the opening of classes.

Some of the school heads including myself were asked on what they’re going to do on Monday, June 13 at the opening of classes. A male school head told that he’s going to go to his school early at six o’clock for he has to travel. His school is situated in the far-flung area. A female school head said she would lead the pupils in their flag ceremonies. Another one added that she’s going to meet with her teachers to check if they’re ready for the Monday’s opening of classes.

In my part, I said that I am going to be in school early in the morning for I have also to travel. I have to wait for my teachers for they also have to travel. I am expecting that they may be late for there are instances that their motorized cycle got a flat tire. I have to check my teacher’s key for there were instances they’re unable to bring their own keys for their classrooms for they’re excited. I have to check our flag to be raised on that day for there was an occasion that the flag was nowhere to be found when the flag ceremonies were about to start. I have to check the ground for it is always full of falling leaves and they should be gathered and disposed properly to make our ground clean.

Physically my humble school which is located in the barangay, 7-kilometer away from the city is ready. Its ground, its building, the classrooms were already maintained. They had been repainted. The chairs and the blackboards were cleaned and even got a new look for a fresh painting. The perimeter fence of the school looks spick and span.

The teachers are also ready for their first classes. Their school records of their pupils are already prepared. They already have a new set of school uniform. Our officers of the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA) are also ready to welcome the new and the returning pupils of our school.

All is set. All is well. All is ready for this school year 2016 – 2017.

    • congrats on the opening of your old school.
It will be a good start for your humble school to revive again.

      • It is the opening of classes, not the school which is already in operation and it is being facelifted, maintained to be ready for the opening of this school year 2016. Everything in this school, the classroom, the ground, the overlook of the school has been improved with the help of the school's stakeholders like the parents, the community officials led by the Punong Barangay.

What we are doing every year a week before the opening of the regular classes is this so-called Brigada Eskwela or School Maintenance. This is being done by every school in the country. That is we call it the National School Maintenance, readying the school for the regular start of classes in the mentioned school year.

    • It is a good thing to know this. I am sure the children are ready to be educated by their teachers. I am just curious. Is the school not affected of the new educational system: K12?

      • You are right with your expectation that the school children are ready for the new school year 2016. The school is already prepared with the concerted efforts of our stakeholders like the parents and officers of the PTA, the teachers themselves are donating their service, their time to supervise the maintenance project of their classroom. The youth organization has also given their share.

If you are around during this national activity in our school, you can feel how the Bayanihan spirit works perfectly. Everyone enjoys in doing their part. Some are bringing foods for the volunteers to eat. Some are fruit juices. You can see everyone doing a selfie or a groupie. I even join with them. You can appreciate how does this group of concerned people to make the school ready for its regular opening of classes.

Well, as to your query of this controversial K to 12 curricula, the school is supportive of it. It has already implemented it since its inception sometime in 2012. We have no problem on its implementation.

    • I usually prepare kids school things earlier..I make sure that by june i will only go to school for "brigada eskwela" and the enrollment..My grade 7and grade 10 i enrolled them may 1st week and my grade 11 may 25..my grade 11 i need to go with him during enrolment because we need to comply many requirements including the scholarship

      • @lhey, I do appreciate your all-out concern to you kids' education and also your involvement to things be ready for the opening of the school. You are not like other mother or parents who never care about their children's education. They don't care at all.

Parents should show their sincerity of their children's future by supporting their education. Education is the greatest wealth which the children's parents may bequeath to them. If they their children to have good if not better future, they should provide them the basic education which their children need as a stepping stone to a higher education.

I know you are also active in attending any meeting called by the school, especially for the welfare and academic development of the students. A very supportive parent could be proud of her children's highest academic performance because of the invaluable support they give, they share without reservation. In return, children are very proud of their parents for that.
