Old Presque Isle Lighthouse in Michigan

I knew before we decided to move to Florida, that if I had any plans to visit lighthouses in the northern east coast of the U.S., along with Michigan and Ohio, that I would have to visit them before we moved. So, my husband, and I, along with my youngest daughter, which happened to be 7 years old at the time, packed up the car and went on a 1 week vacation to tour the lighthouses of the northern east coast. We already visited the Presque Island Lighthouse in Pennsylvania during one of our previous lighthouse trips, so this was a surprise to see that there was a lighthouse with a similar name located in Michigan.

The Old Presque Isle Lighthouse, located in Presque Isle, Michigan, is not to be confused with the Presque Isle Lighthouse in Pennsylvania. This lighthouse in Michigan was built in 1840, but the light was deactivated in 1871.

The bottom half of the lighthouse is made with stone, and the upper is constructed with bricks. It stands 38 ft. tall.

This lighthouse is another that is said to be haunted, and of course, I had no idea, until a long time after I visited it. I should have looked up more about the lighthouses before I visited them, other than just their locations. This one would have been more interesting, if I knew in advance that it was haunted. This was the first lighthouse to be built in Presque Isle, Michigan, but is no longer an aid to navigation. The New Presque Isle Lighthouse, is just a few miles north of this one, and replaced this one. It also is said to be haunted.

This is a lighthouse that you can go inside, and climb the stairs to the top. At the time we visited this lighthouse, it could have used some painting, for the paint was starting to chip off the sides of the lighthouse.
