Oatmeal Porridge with Minced Pork Recipe

Porridge had been known as one of the regular meal among the Chinese families.

My grandmother used to prepare minced pork porridge with side dishes which were delicious and filling.

My mom follow suit her steps, making minced pork porridge for us when we were young .

We loved the salted eggs, scrambled eggs with minced pork and stir fry mustard seeds with chopped garlic .

However, when I gave birth to my baby, I decided to change our traditional minced pork porridge to a healthier meal.

By replacing the white rice with rolled oats or quick cooking oats, this is an ideal porridge recipe for my children.

Quick cooking oats cook quickly and faster compare to white rice.

In addition, oats is nutritious, healthier and contain lots of fibre, nutritional value for our children.

Boil oats with water first , then add in minced pork to enhance the flavor of the oat porridge.

Oatmeal porridge with minced pork is an ideal meal for breakfast or lunch.

In addition, it is also suitable for sick family members to consume , especially those with weak stomach ,lack of appetite or old folks.

At home, my children normally consume oatmeal porridge with side dishes such as scrambled eggs, seaweed snack and chicken floss.

This is an appetizing porridge meal that most children love to eat in the morning for breakfast or lunch.

Hence, I usually prepare a big pot of oatmeal porridge with minced meat in the morning, transfer it to the slow cooker to keep warm.

If you prefer , I would recommend you to buy fresh pork ffrom the wet market.

Buy lean pork, not the pork belly because that part of meat is oily and fatty.

Lean pork should be washed properly before cooking it.

Cut the pork into strips and then cubes.

Then mince the pork with a cleaver.

Otherwise, you could use a food processor to blend the pork into minced meat.

Prepare the pork in bulk.

Divide them into different proportions, pack into a ziplock bag or tupperware for future use.

Marinate the minced pork with light soy sauce and white pepper as according to your taste.

It is worth original meals among the Chinese families to be kept all over the world in families and in Chinese restaurants.

    • Wow! Dear, you are talking all about my favourite food here.
My mom used to cook porridge everyday when I was young and stay at home, only white rice porridge, we will eat it with some dishes, just the normal type like vegetables, potatoes, etc.
The minced pork porridge only available when my mom is not working or she was in the mood. It’s as special meal to me.
My kids insisted that they don’t like to eat porridge after they can eat rice after 2. I fed them porridge when they were 1 year old. So, I didn’t cook porridge for years.
But, I started to cook porridge again lately as I have some white rice in my kitchen. Other than minced pork porridge, I cook some salted eggs, scrambled eggs like you too.
Cook the oat porridge instead of white rice porridge will be faster, I believe. But, would it be more healthier? I am not sure, my hubby is suffered from risk of gout, thus he can’t take oats. Hence, I can only cook white rice porridge.
