No Media Coverage

The journalists in and out of our country seem to be cursing the President-elect Rody Duterte for his undaunted, unequivocal pronouncement of killing them if they are identified as croak, undesirable, and corrupt media practitioners. They would be sorry for they will be eliminated among the good ones.

Duterte had made this declaration in his press conferences at the Davao City. He cited the slain Jun Pala, a journalist, and a politician who was shot to death by the gunmen on a motorcycle sometime in 2003 in Davao. The former Mayor of Davao said that Pala deserved that deadly fate for he is “a rotten son of a b*tch”.

On their side, the group of journalists reacted unfavorably for they’re the target of summary executive if they belong to the category of receiving bribes, doing corrupt business using their role as journalists. In so doing, they’re not exempted. They’re the target for assassination unless they behave themselves and do nothing to extort money to their victims especially businessmen and politicians.

Boycott or No Boycott

With such daring, fearless statement of foul-mouth President-elect, in response, the journalists threatened Duterte to stay away from his presscon, related activities or whatever to devoid press releases. Duterte didn’t move an inch for such threat. Instead, he answered back go ahead. He didn’t need press releases coming from corrupt media persons.

A day or so, they declared that they don’t want to do that. Duterte didn’t conform to their bidding to cover him for his activities. Instead, he relayed to them that they’d be boycotted. They won’t be invited to any press conferences until Duterte’s term ends on 2012.

He had told this in his recent presscon at Sunday night at the Hotel Elena in Davao City. He was fed up of media corruption. He was afraid if he granted them they may be misquoted him. He said it firmly, “Ayoko na.” (I don’t want it anymore).

    • I hope he can sustain this act. He is so authoritative in all aspects. It sounds familiar pattern during the time of Marcos. I wouldn't say much about to add credit. I still waiting for him to uplift country and no need to talk much from him. He should show a true meaning of leadership to his fellowmen.

      • You're right. It is too early or premature to prejudge him. He has six years to complete his terms of governance. He is still enthusiastic to assure the people that he could do "magic" in a short period of time by minimizing crimes and corruption, if not eradicating them. He has his own style of running the government which the people find disgrace and lose faith.

He is no superman, but he has the gut as what his battle cry during his election campaign. "courage and compassion". Since the electorate is already fed up of series of failures which the Aquino government had done, they want change and he is the only presidential candidate who could effect the change which the people wanted.

We know everyone is longing for such change. Let's give the time to prove himself that he could do it. As long as he gives justice to those who criminals and corrupt government officials.
