West Indies were scheduled to play 5 One Day International Matches in New Zealand in 2000. It was a very interesting series as both these teams were playing some great cricket on that time. The 4th match of 5 One day international Series was played on Westpac Stadium, Wellington, New Zealand on 17th Jan, 2000.
New Zealand won the toss and opts to bowl first, so this means West Indies will bat first and will try to set target for New Zealand to chase later in the game. This is how West indies team and 11 was looking like in this 4th One Day International: Brian Lara (c), Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Courtney Walsh, Jimmy Adams, Sherwin Campbell, Ridley Jacobs (wk), Franklyn Rose, Mervyn Dillon, Reon King, Nehemiah Perry, Ricardo Powell
And New Zealand team and 11 was looking like this in this 4th one Day international: Stephen Fleming (c), Nathan Astle, Chris Cairns, Craig McMillan, Daniel Vettori, Chris Harris, Dion Nash, Adam Parore (wk), Roger Twose, Craig Spearman, Shayne O’Connor.
West Indies again started poorly and lost their 5 wickets on the team score of only 116 runs in 37.4 over’s. They were not able to score quickly and also in the process were losing too many wickets at wrong time that was the reason they were never able to capitalize in the game and were only able to make 171 runs in allotted 50 over’s at the loss of 9 wickets and only S Campbell top scored with 30 runs in 73 balls with 1 four and strike rate of 41 runs in 100 balls.
New Zealand was required to chase 172 runs in 50 over’s to win this 4th ODI and take 4-0 lead in this series.
New Zealand batted very well and were able to chase the target of 172 runs in only 36.3 over’s at the loss of only 2 wickets and top scored by N Astle who made 76 runs in 99 balls with 9 4’s and strike rate of 77 runs in 100 balls. With this win New Zealand was with 4-0 lead in the series with one more game to play.
Chris Harris was the man of the match for his all round performance.
