New Bag: Rombouts Italian Style Cafe Espresso Review

It is time to open another bag of espresso yet again! I don’t know why, but trying out a different brand, blend or simply opening a new bag of beans makes me feel as excited about trying a restaurant or even skincare product, LOL! I guess there is something about so special about trying different things sharing with the world what I feel about it.

Anyway, our last bag of beans finished last weekend. We still have another bag we bought from Amazon that is sitting in our second room, waiting for its turn to brighten up our mornings. So last Saturday, that bag from Hancock and Abberton was done and dusted so we were ready to open a new bag. This time, it was a brand called Rombouts and we purchased the Italian Style Cafe Espresso beans.

At the time I bought Rombouts, it was on sale. I wasn’t planning to buy this but I didn’t want to pay for shipping. Shipping which will cost me around €8, so instead of buying two kilos of coffee and paying for shipping, I decided to buy an additional bag of beans: and this was it! I was able to buy enough beans to qualify for free shipping so it is a good way to use the money!

According to the product description from Amazon, the country of origin is Belgium, which I got me a bit surprised. I am not used to hearing coffee beans coming from that country so I just had this mindset of “wanting to try since it’s reasonably priced and this will pay for shipping”. It is a 500g bag and costs £5.49 – not bad, eh?

We opened the bag and made our first cup of coffee with it. I smelled my latte and was surprised that the “aroma” I usually get from freshly made coffee not to mention that it was a newly opened bag of beans wasn’t there! It was the first time for me to encounter anything like it so I was disappointed without taking a sip from my cup. More disappointments came as soon as I tasted my coffee – it was average. It reminded me of my experiences of drinking coffee from our office vendo machine.

I guess with the price I paid for the coffee, I shouldn’t be disappointed with the taste but with my past purchases with Amazon, this is the first time for me to buy a so-so type of beans. Would I buy it again? I wouldn’t say no given that I’d rather buy another bag instead of paying for shipping. But I will definitely consider other brands or blends first before putting this inside my shopping cart. I am not ruling out Rombouts as an average brand when it comes to coffee beans in general and would try to find a different blend – maybe it’s just the blend after all!

Overall, I find this bag mediocre. Still has caffeine in it to perk me up in the mornings but wouldn’t say it is a favorite.
