Nationwide Earthquake Drill

The national government of the Philippines through the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council or NDRRMC holds the nationwide Earthquake Drill today, September 28, 2016, as part of disaster awareness in the country.

Almost all of the local government units participated in the program. The local DRRMC initiated the program to their area of responsibility.

In the town of San Esteban, at exactly 8:15 in the morning, the alarm was sounded and the municipal employees including the mayor went out of their office acting like there was really an earthquake happening in that place. Then, the police then search the area and as if an injured woman was lying in the ground, the rescuers went to get the victim rush to the clinic.

In the city of Candon, 5 schools were tapped as venue for the drill. The students and teachers participated in the program as if there was really an earthquake happening by walking cautiously going out of the classroom putting their hands at the top of their head.

Aside from earthquake drill, the Bureau of Fire Protection also includes the fire drill in the schools to get them ready in fire hazard situation.

Have you heard these three words: duck, hold, cover? I’m sure you do. This is synonyms to earthquake because it will save your life. The campaign is having seen sent throughout the country, it is the important words for you to remember when the disaster happens.

Duck to the pavement. Flying debris and stones from the rubbles and broken glasses can hit you if you are standing. It’s safe when you drop rather than standing.

Cover yourself with things around you like tables, chairs, cabinets and anything that can protect you in that moment.

And hold on to your place and don’t just run and run. Wait for right timing when you want to get out. It might be more dangerous when you are running away.

This is not the first time an earthquake drill was held. In fact, this is the third time earthquake practices have been done in the city.

Our region is also within the ring of fire and this program is being held to practice and make the people ready when disaster come.
