This week from August 15 up to 19 is Philippines celebration of National Coconut Tree Week. A week of fun made possible by the people of Philippines tourism. We have an Expo, an array of display that featured coconut tree merchandise that is made locally. The schools have launch contest on poster making. Slogan making, and many other. Filipinos considered coconut as a tree of life because from a root and up to the tips of the leaves it has its important usage that we indulge in our daily life. Coconut trees are found in almost all over our country.
Here are few of the thing that coconut tree has contributed in our everyday life.
The trunk – we used for building our home and some of our furniture’s. In some places in our province, it is used as a bridge, as footholds in mountain steps. We use the tree that is thirty years and higher of age for more durability.
The leaf- we weave it for baskets, hats, bags and sometimes for the roof in our huts. The midrib of the leaf is used as brooms.
The fruit – we can eat the fruit raw. It is a crop for cooking oil. The juice is also good for cleansing the body.
Coconut tree is a big help to us. It is a necessity in our life. A constant companion to all that is living in the province. And, because of its vast growth in our country, it is very accessible everywhere we go.
