My Shopping Experience with GoDaddy

When it comes to domains, people think of godaddy. It is how they are being marketed these days. And the part where things can go bad is in the upsell. I think many of us have suffered with the godaddy domains upsell. I have had lot of issues while handling my own and client domains. And I realized how they are working with their support and the upsell to make more money. I understand this is tough business, but it can be good if they avoid doing the upsell. And for this reason I have decided to write an article on the topic of my experience with their service. And I am hopeful that I can put on some light on their bad service.

Notification

One of the biggest issue with godaddy is that they send lot more notifications than required. Most of their offers are for new orders only. They offer no discounts on existing products. And this makes you spend more money. So notifications on weekly and daily basis are going to hurt you a lot. And you should consider avoiding it. You have to instead spend time on finding ways to minimize or sort such notifications. I have done that on gmail and so far that is working for me. I think many of us are into notification mode on mobile but too many of that from godaddy is not worth it.

Cost

Some of the domains may cost cheap at first but in reality they are not cheap. They are priced low only for one year. After second year onwards, you are paying more money. And the cost for reminding you for the notification is also taken from you. Compared to other domain websites, you don’t find this one to be cheaper. As they are going to make money through you on almost everything that is out there. You will find it harder to even to disable some of the features. As they are being forced on you. And there is no way to reduce the cost of small things at godaddy, which is kind of odd.

Upsell

I think many of us hate godaddy for this reason. In every purchase order on godaddy, they have some add on. Some of the add ons are so bad and not even worth listing. For example, who in their right mind will pay 1$ per month for the service of search engine submission. Why would anyone even think of this service is beyond me. You don’t need to manually submit to search engine. Even backlinks can do the job. I think this is one reason many people are not even aware of the part where they need to understand that upsells are surely bad for any type of the service there as well.

I think godaddy offers some good services and they should continue to do that. But it’s kind of getting too sales pitchy on some points. Unless the people understand that godaddy is not in a good option, they need to use other services like say namecheap and few others. That way godaddy can get it’s act together.
