A day before Valentine’s day, a piece of rose only costs 25 pesos or $.50, as was told in the news.
However, on Valentine’s day the rose already costs 100 pesos or $2.00!
And this also goes with all the other imported flowers, which were imported more or less two weeks ago.
Well, that’s because the vendors know that by Valentine’s day, people will be flocking to buy their flowers as Valentine’s Day gifts to their loved ones.
But if I were a man, instead of buying flowers, I would buy chocolates which can be cheaper than a bouquet of flowers.
Now, those flowers are of very low prices and they will wilt in a few more days.
This also happens during the All Soul’s Day, where people will be buying flowers to bring to their departed loved ones at the cemetery. Some would even order it from Baguio, a city in the mountainous area of the Philippines, where beautiful flowers of different kinds grow there.
Vendors would already be selling as early as two days before the said occasion. You can buy them at a cheaper price. However, once it is already the day of All Soul’s Day itself, they will increase their prices.
To some, they would already buy the flowers while they are still cheap. The way to preserve their freshness is cut the end slanting and putting some aspirin.
Or the people can make their own bouquets of flowers to be brought to the cemetery. My sister makes her own bouquet of flowers every All Souls Day.
She would get some orchids then put some small white flowers that I forgot the name and some leaves, and stick them in a small block of banana trunk. At least, she made it out of her love for our deceased grandparents.
I think the flowers aren’t as important as the prayer or the mass that you will be offering for the dead. Also, you can just buy candles to light while you are all there praying.
Is it like this in your place, where the vendors would raise their prices so high, just because it is the demand on that day?
Oh well, that’s how it is with all goods when the demand is high.

It is a supply and demand ratio. More demand would mean less supply and so the rate goes up. This is the case with all commodities.
Yes, that is true. We studied this in College - the law of demand and supply.
Though, even if they didn't but the commodity in a higher price because they have an existing stock, they really would mark up their price since they know that the demand is high. Whether it's more expensive the people will buy it.
Sad though, that the people would buy because they can't do anything since they need it that moment.
