Money order economy – bane or a boon

Everyone dreams of a good standard of living and will bend backwards to be there. And this bending backwards is seen when working abroad becomes a choice. The opportunities stare at them making it  impossible for them to look the other way.

India is noted for their citizens having left the shores seeking greener pastures be it America, Canada, Australia  or most importantly the Middle East.

Earlier it used to be only the Middle East where mostly artisans managed to get jobs at earnings that were far better than what they got in their mother country. This helped their household to survive adding a bit of luxury in their life.

In this blog I will touch upon just this category – working in the Middle East.

What are the bad effects or the bane of this move

– This move  makes them lazy in that they refuse to complete their studies but go for these jobs which pay them handsomely if that is the right word to use here. Handsomely because those doing menial jobs would never dream of such wages back home. There is also hesitancy in accepting such jobs in their own country as for those  coming from the  so called ‘decent’  families  it would be a shame.

-They live shabbily there as the authorities there never provide decent living for those who handle such jobs.

– They live without their family and their family lives without them – not a happy situation.

-The family gets into squander as the money pours into  their coffers – a habit that will be difficult to give up should the earner lose his job.

– Back home there would be a dearth of labourers making life difficult for those who need them.

– There is exploitation specially when it comes to women who are taken for certain jobs but become victims of human trafficking.

The only advantage or boon as I can put it is that foreign exchange pours into the country and there is an improvement in the living standards of those who are a part of this money order economy but at the cost of what I have stated above.
