In Jamaica, we know about Pepperpot…the Amerindians, in our case, the Tainu, did it. Our national dish is ackee and saltfish.
Ackee comes from West Africa, saltfish was the preserved fish from Britain.

WHOA! That was a great history lesson! Glad EvilElf asked the question. I’ve never heard of the Amerindians either. Not sure if it’s a national dish but if in The Bahamas, where my father and husband are from, pigeon peas and rice (recipe) is a common side dish served with almost any meal. Dishes made with conch are very popular: conch salad,…[Read more]

It’s been a while since I posted in here; a lot of things has happened. America got their 45th President (Trump), Remembrance day rang through my country painting it red and black signifying the poppies and my graduation from the University of Guyana took place yesterday (Yay me!).
But in those moments my sister came back to visit home and I too…[Read more]

I think I have too many ways that I love potatoes but one of the main ways is french fries and potato salad. Here lately I have been trying to stay away from potatoes. Really not a good thing to eat when you are on a low-fat diet.

In our country we dont celebrate thanks giving but we celebrate Christmas which is a fun time for everyone. We usually have dinners and lunches that involves the family members cousins and other relatives and friends as well. I remember when I was little we all would have a Thanksgiving dinner at our local church. The church would provide the turkey and dressing and the church members would bring something. It would be the biggest potluck dinner of the year. We would then get up during the dinner to say our thanks. It was a time that everyone came together with no…[Read more]

What is thanksgiving really???…Basically it’s the celebration of the harvest festival in November where autumn is at its peak. An American tradition I find quiet warming; it’s like a pre-Christmas where all the family get together to celebrate a spread of delicious food and company.
But should there be only one thanksgiving. We should get…[Read more]
