    kaylar wrote a new post, The All Purpose Internet 8 years, 2 months ago

    Years ago, the average person had a radio, to listen to music, sports, the news.

    The average person had devices to record music, or play music,  as tape recorders or cassette players.

    The average person […]

    • I agree with you totaly the gadget called a computer is one powerful gadget. When I look back in the days life, in those times having a television was not a luxury like it is now, it was a necessity in fact of you had a small tv we used to call it a great walk which was only in black and white you were a rich person. Hahaha life is very interesting. Let me correct you a bit before the DVD came about we had the VCD which stands for video compact disc, we have truly come from far. Now you can’t even use those machines because the cds now can’t play on them. We now have the computers and the televisions where you can choose from either to play whatever you want.

      • Yes! I forgot about the VCR… yes! Oh gosh…

        Ya know I sit here, watch television programs, read the news, do my work, and when I go out… it’s like I’m leaving part of my body behind.

    • I heart public libraries and for me, the Internet is the library. 🙂

      • Yes…and what I like about the ‘net is that when I’m reading I can make the letters larger if I need too.

    • I agree with you. The computer and its internet access is now an almighty weapon of entertainment, espionage, calculations, banking and even working at home. The only problem that I hate to mention here is all the jobs that were probably lost at the factories that were manufacturing the good old fashioned radios, telephones etc. But progress cannot be halted and certainly not stopped as they are coming up with more and more amazing technology.

      • It is kind of good in a way that a person has just a laptop and can connect to the Net, and in one package have a tv, a radio, etc. But I’m sure there are those who will still buy a TV or a Radio. Prob. not as many.

        But if you only have X dollars then you buy one thing…

    • If I remember exactly the Computer has dominated the entire scene of VCR, Recorder, Calculator, Radio etc., from 1990. In my office, people were asking me whether it is possible to see the file written by an officer sitting in his chamber.I was telling them that this programme is already there in U.S but not in India. I was telling them it needs a lot of expenditure. Having a memory of 500MB was seen as great. The RAM was considerably low . Even then we were anxious to run PLSQL on it and it was taking a lot of time . Now everything is changed.

    • Internet has changed lots of things. Now it is an important thing for everyone’s life. Without it many of us can’t spend time for sure. Not only for entertainment now it is getting connected with work and other things too. Like now we can do much more using it like paying bills, recharges, banking and many more. Now it is surely hard to survive without it. Personally my whole work is related to internet as I am website developer. So for me it is much more important.

      • Like you I pay bills on line, write online, watch t.v. on line, keep up with my friends online… research and do my work online…

    • The average person is connected to the internet to the same degree that an American president was during the yesteryears. Most of the most sought after and searched internet sites have to do with online earning opportunities, weight loss, as well as cheek in the tongue, pornography among others. In fact, the world is a global village as a result of internet connectivity and hundreds of thousands of search results are available at the touch of a button. Apps are also being developed with the capacity to run sophisticated programs and operations in industries. The possibilities are endless.

    • Seems like the television was a hit only yesterday. But then, like you say everything changes so fast that time seems to be in a mighty hurry.Soon the internet will be replaced by something new I guess.

      • With TV you have to wait for you show to come on. You have to watch it when it airs, put up with the commercials… online?

    kaylar wrote a new post, Education; can not be Mass Produced 8 years, 2 months ago

    When I was growing up, many schools were being built.  These were small but well staffed and supplied.

    There were four classes per grade and thirty children in each class.

    In those days, testing was like a […]

    • I was thinking that this disease if in India only till I read your post. It is really a sorry state of Affairs.

      You are having almost all the bad elements that we are having in India. The following may kindly be added additionally to your education system;

      1. Taking funds from the Government in the name toilet constructions,

      2. Drawing funds for the development of sports activities

      3. Teachers involving in local politics and supporting actively supporting a local M.L.A and not attending school for his job;

      4. Whenever a teacher is transferred he comes with a recommendation letter of the local M.L.A who brings pressure on the Government for excluding his name from the list;

      5. Teachers making good money in taking up money rotation schemes in their place of work as well as outside;

      6. Frequently approaching the Government for some favor or the other along with their Union Leaders;

      7. Introduction of Best Teacher Awards: meant for those who can properly feed the political party in power;

      8. Poor Transportation facilities frequently leading to accidents and even death of children;

      So we are quite developed. Kindly add to the education system existing in your country for further development. This is what we mean by Development. Still, there are many which do not find place to mention.

      • The issue I see is that schools are ‘factories’ where the child is like a product on a conveyor belt. A very bad state of affairs.

    • There has to be a different approach to education these days. While basic knowledge can be mass produced as you have put it, due to knowledge being available through other media what one learns in schools is just so that children get exposed to intermingling till they reach an age to branch out to what their apptitude suggests.

    • Yes, the schools are not producing good students but parrot who cram text stuffs and appear in the exam when such students go in the field they become unsuccessful due to no true knowledge. While on the other hand there is not good atmosphere in the schools for the students in which the students could enhance their inborn talents for the coming generation.

      The teachers are not experts in the school those who do not even ABC of English become teacher and lawyers in all countries of the world. I have sen in all countries our education system could produce any Shakespeare, Milton, GB Shah, Wordsworth….what the school teachers are doing and what the government is doing.

      Privates school are being opened and their fees are more high than the government schools that is the poor students go to government schools and they become all dull while more intelligent students get admission in private schools where teachers are more qualified than the teachers of the government schools.

      I am also a professor of English in my country the school conditions are very bad no teacher come, no student comes, no arrangements of any thing furniture broken, staff rough and dull, waste time in tits bits and gossip in the class. No teaching but tuition and just tuition just to earn money in spite of this the students fail all classes.

      Very wretched condition of school all over the world no creation but cramming and just cramming, no learning but earning.

    kaylar wrote a new post, The Deeper Attitude Towards Migrants 8 years, 2 months ago

    World War II was fought in Europe.  There are people alive today who fought in that war,  those who are children or grand children or great grand children of people who fought in that War.

    Many people, a […]

    • O.K. Yes. But, they did not object when they were migrating. Germany was more sympathetic towards migrants of Syria.
      It has kept their doors opened in the name of humanism. Next, comes the Italy. They too allowed migrants liberally. Now, the brunt of the sword is being experienced by these European countries. They entered into Europe in the shadow of migrants and now creating chaos and instability. But, it is only u.S which has been suspecting the possibility of the entry of terrorists and had allowed only 10,000 to enter in the U.S. This is enough. At any time the burst may come out without any anticipation.

      • What should have been done is similar to what Australia did. Put all migrants in a neutral place…i.e a piece of land in Turkey. Then, go through them one by one, just as is done normally.

        Yes, we have rescued you from what you were running from. You are now safe. But part two, resettlement, requires a bit of finesse. For example, suppose there is a chap who is a computer engineer. They need a computer engineer in Oslo, so he can be sent there. Suppose this is a botanist, they need a botanist in Belgium…

        In this way they know ‘who is who’ they place them carefully. There won’t be a bunch of unemployed rolling on the roads.

        And those who don’t check out, stay at the camp.

    • The reality, moving from hype and trying to prove how liberal and wonderful they are…every country has rules as to migration. If the E.U. had not looked to prove their greatness they would have confined all the hopefuls somewhere, interviewed them, checked out what they said, and probably turned back a number. But…they would know who was coming in, where s/he was going, and could check up.

      But they didn’t.

    • EU’s open-borders policy created Brexit. A.Merkel’s of Germany made a bad decision incited anarchy against women and citizens. I believe, “extreme vetting” on people wishing to enter a soverign country through legal process is ideologically wise to enforce.

      • That is the way it always was until Merkel decided to show what a big liberal she is. She opened borders, Austria did, terrorists now fill those countries, moving around, getting into other nations, planning their big terrorist attacks. ]

        When Australia first did their ‘go to Nauru’ thing I pondered, but they are smart. Cut down migrants. For these are not people running for their lives.

    Girls were coming off to […]

    • So you mean to say that the Relationships are governed by money. Yes. It can be in sometimes, but not all times.

      This concept of family itself has been changed with the advancement of Information Technology. Earlier, the position was not like that as mentioned by you.

      With the advancement of Technology, the greed for earning money at any cost became important for meeting several expenses.The technology has given and made her things easy in finding a job and if not a part-time job which she can perform without any risk.

      Parents themselves are lacking disciplines and ethical and moral values and are not in a position to take care of their children. A dividing line is becoming conspicuous in the Parent-children relationship and Husband-wife relationship because of Technology and financial necessities.

      Whether the man is married or Bachelor is not the question . But, whether he is having cash or not is the only question that is becoming a point of concern for a gal in the modern society of India, which once had a rich culture of its own. Even now, the position is still hanging at the edge. The downfall is inevitable. No need to feel over it.

    • Again, respect to all but I would have to disagree with some of the statements made. First, any woman that has an affair with a married man is a detriment. What ever happened to that statement, “GET YOUR OWN”! Anywho! It is extremely appalling and disgusting that some find it so easy to do things like this. Whether it be a woman having a affair or a man having a affair. Why is it disgusting, well it is hard for some to even kiss a person after another person has kissed them. Also some women and men do get hurt in these type of relationships because some become attached. Many examples are made with these new movies that they have come out with based on fatal attractions. More realistically, homicide shows prove the results of having affairs.

      Now on the subject of control. Some do act controlling whether it is a good relationship or a relationship that consists of affairs. Some feel a sense of power in this type of behavior.

      As far as job security, some may think that this is a good way to obtain a great job or the job of their dreams but it can also backfire. They had a movie similar to this and the lady who was the mistress and got the great job in the end she did not have nothing and it crushed her. So the saying goes, “You reap what you sow”.

      Anywho! To the guy who has had more sex than ever, hope he does not end up with a deadly disease.

      The obviously right thing to do is for a man and woman to assist each other financially, emotionally, mentally and spiritually. These things have known to be valuable in any successful relationship. When it comes to a woman’s self esteem that is a subject that is individualized and can be discussed forever but independence is important.

    • Those who have sinful affair with married man are usually sick women. Some are also social climbers.They want to reach the stars and they could only achieve what they dream through finding some men to act as their sugar daddy.Some are also prostitute beyond the knowledge of the man. He will only learn about it if the real wife will be contaminated and bad if the wife is pregnant. The husband may find the reasonable guilt at the end.Some married men have shallow reason why cohabit another women. their reason s wife no longer submit herself during his sexual need, which is wrong.The husband should not forget that a wife has her own feeling of dislikeness.I am no to this kind of act.

    • We will always have these types of people called psychopaths around us, they cannot be avoided because they always play like the innocent ones and that they cannot do wrong to anyone. But the truth is that they are the worst people to be around because their main aim is to break up people, make them here each other or be at logger heads that’s what makes them happy. I used to wonder whether they do these things on purpose or are they sick,but it’s obvious that they are truly sick in their heads. If I may ask what happened then to your friend Ginny, did she stop that behaviour or is it something that she still does. Such people need a lot of help otherwise they and up messing others lives.

      • Ginny is, today, a psychologist. Yes. A big psychologist in her city with battalions of victims. And Margie died about six months after she sent me that email.

    • Exactly. We have to learn to read them. Even as children. The ability to lie and manipulate without remorse as if it’s some kind of winning or trophy.

    • If you like old TV shows and you like sci-fi, you have to watch The Twilight Zone. The other show that I used to watch was called “The Outer Limits”. They tried to revive and remake these series. But the original were better.

      • Oh Yes! I saw it. That was the first time I saw David McCallum, and also Robert Culp! That show was like a copy of Twilight Zone… but I agree with you. The originals were much better. The epis were well written, the actors and actresses were first rate. I just gave a handful of stars who first appeared on Twilight Zone. I went to where I had been […]

    • It is great to get away from technology and really live. See and hear and think and feel.

    • You are actually representing most of us. I was a people’s person once upon a time – calling visiting, meeting and what have you. But today I prefer my mouse for company.

      • Me too… I had a big life… meetings all over, going all over, active… now it’s like I go out and feel I left my computer home alone. I don’t have a smart phone so all I can do is make calls and receive them… so at least if I’m out I am off line.

    • Its just a point of view, where you see it. If you think communication tech slaving us, that is your opinion. But other people might say these are just tools, things or machines to make people convenient and moving closer though the long distance communication.

      • I once was getting a lift… the driver got on the phone as the engine started and stayed there until I reached my destination and continued. I didn’t exist.

        Trolls, who are nothing in real life become powerful beings on the Internet and can insult and threaten at will. In RL they don’t have the courage to tell their neighbour to turn down the radio.

        The disconnect becomes more obvious and will be more obvious as time goes on.

    • Why do people keep saying the Internet is replacing human interaction? The Internet IS human interaction. Except for those folks who try to fool with that artificial intelligence / fake conversation crap. 🙂

      • You may be the same person here that you would be if we were having coffee at that nice place down the road. But others are not. I can think of particular scammers whose online person is not who they are.

        I think those of us who spend time interacting with the public pretty much have the same ‘narrative’ online as off, but there are others who do not.

    Too many people do not understand copyright law.  They are too stupid to hire an attorney, too stupid to understand its definition.

    Since we are dealing with stupid people who don’t understand the term ‘Fair Use’ .

    • A comment is a comment. That’s true. And if you’re in a discussion community where you can earn from interaction, controversial remarks or disagreements are fine. They are even expected if it’s a touchy subject. But, other than the monetary aspects, I don’t see commenting online in a written form as being any different from talking with a person face-to-face. I’m not going to be rude and discourteous and abusive to you in person. So I’m not going to do it to you online either. I have no control what comes out of another person’s mouth, but I can control what I say and write. I can also control what I hear or read. You can spit out all the venom you want. No guarantee I’ll read it and/or read and respond. Hit me with your best shot! It could be your contrasting opinions and points of view may give me a great idea and/or help me to solve a difficult problem. It could be like a breakthrough. You never know! 🙂

      • That is precisely how I feel. A person has the freedom to write what s/he wants, I have the freedom to not read it. The contrast of opinions is what makes a site lively; not just the ‘I agree’.

    • There is just so much one can digest when it comes to comments that are rude. Just as there is freedom of speech so does one have the freedom to block that which is unpalatable.

    • I was engaged in a certain group in facebook its a community of people about paranormal things, like legends, and true to life stories but i was always pissed off with them! Maybe because of their own ignorance that can’t even justify their own verdict with a particular subject and most of them are keep laughing behind your back when in fact they are definetly laughing at themselves for knowing anything but ignorance.
