Tiada wrote a new post, Why should support and buy old things? 7 years, 9 months ago

There is second hand shop or centre located nearby my house. The public donate their unwanted or unnecessary goods, cloths, toys, electrical goods, IT gadgets, some in good conditions and some in bad condition […]

    • Some people develop love and like for old things. This is no doubt a good hobby. There is no guarantee we always will be on the profit side. Sometimes we will incur heavy loss also. But, the chances for the latter are less.
Yes. The price of the old ones will be half of the new ones. It is also true that most of the machinery will have good quality material wise than the new ones.
I had a good experience. I got Manual singer sewing machine which is of 60 years old. We were not using it. I wanted to use it. So took it to the servicing center. The mechanic was an expert. He just saw it and asked ‘WHY WAS IT KEPT IDLE FOR THE LAST 40 TO 50 YEARS”. I told him the reason He asked for the machine and was ready to pay Rs.6000/- as is where is a condition. I did not accept for that and got it repaired. Now it is perfect.
Similarly, the story of my St.Thomas Wall Clock which is really 150 years old. My grandfather purchased it in those British days.
I really enjoy to have them and take good care of the above two items.

    • Good article. We have in the States a similar location. We call these places Thrift stores. They are designed to raise funds for the homeless and needy. Rich people contribute to these centers and you can find clothes with the receipt tag with it in good conditions. Plus, if you do your homework right, you can find good antique items in which you can sell for a profit. My wife and I have shopped at these places and we have gotten good deals, especially with the clothes. These places are good because not only do you get super deals but your funds helps out those in need. It is a win-win deal!

    • Mr. Siva, those antique lovers look for profits and it towards old coins, paper money, stamp, antique furniture, etc.
Me, just for fun and own collection, not much for profit. Haha!
Singer manual sewing machine is always the best, I believe, especially those old one, with 50 years and older. If you have an older, with 70 years old, I believe your must have a very nice flowery stand. This is what I always looking for and admired to, but yet get one with me so far. Sigh!
St. Thomas brand clock, I have no idea on the brand, but I just bought a digital Telesonic wall clock at USD4, we repaired it , it can play music and with some lights on , my kids are very happy with it. I believe, a new one could cost up to USD150 at least.

Yes, take well care of those antique items with sweet memory.

@Caleb, it’s win-win deal, but I not really go for profits, but most of the retires and furniture manufacturers come here and buy for re-cond those furniture for resell for profit.

Dina wrote a new post, Are The Senior Citizens In Your Country Given Privileges? 7 years, 9 months ago

Here in the Philippines, if a person reaches the age of 60, he/she will be called a senior citizen.

A senior citizen identification card can be claimed from the Office of the Senior Citizen Affairs from the […]

    • The country is under Mr.Duterte.As long as it is under the administration of a single man everything will take place in proper order and any defiance to the established rules and regulations will be viewed severely. India, being under different Administrators each state having their own rules and regulations expecting such facilities will be not possible.
However, there are some concessions but not as many as the Sr citizen of Philippines have got. They got 40% discount on Train fare. In some important places, like temples, they will be allowed without waiting in a queue. As far the medical facilities are concerned they are not available to all. But, the Governments are introducing them slowly. Most of the Administrators are of a conservative type and they spend more on eating the public money than providing facilities to the public. The young generations are entering into politics very slowly and hence the new methods and innovations are also taking place in a slow manner.

      • But at least the discount on the fares are 40%, double the discount rate of our seniors here.

Actually, if only the administrators there are thinking in long term when it comes to their time to be senior citizens, they would be doing some more privileges for the seniors there.

I suppose the seniors there have high pensions so that’s why they don’t ask that other privileges should be given to them also.

    • Very nice to know, glad you enjoyed your Valentines day, i enjoyed as well. Yeah in our country as well they have many schemes and discounts for senior citizens but i will check them out after 32 more years LOL

      • Are your parents already senior citizens? If they are, have you asked them what are their privileges as senior citizens.

From what I have read on sivasubrahmanyam’s comment the seniors there have 40% discount on fares. That’s nicer because it’s double the dsicount on fares that the seniors are getting here. So if it’s a long travel it will really be a great help.

DR KOKIL AGARWAL wrote a new post, HOW OFTEN DO YOU DINE OUT? 7 years, 9 months ago

Do you like to eat only home cooked food or prefer dining out? Well as far s I’m concerned me and my husband both of us like to eat out at least twice a week.

Whenever eating at home we prefer basic food but when […]

    • Actually eating is one way of bonding for couples. It not only makes them closer, specially if they have the same likes in foods.

Besides if there is only the two of you and both of you works, going home after office and cooking will be so tedious.

You better just buy foods and take it home, or just eat out.

Though indeed it could be expensive. And when there are kids, it’s not good to eat out because they should be taught how to eat healthy foods cooked at home.

      • Yeah you are right, most of the times peolple dine outside so that they can have some quality time with their loved ones, and you mentioned well that they can also buy food from outside and then can have it in their homes as well

    • I am blessed to have a wife that enjoys cooking but at times, she gets tired. She is a true trooper, coming from work to cook. During some weekends, we would order out. Pizza, Chinese and Mexican are the order of the day. We try to do this, maybe, 2 times a month. We don’t believe in spending too much in eating out but when we do,we make it special. Also, I have a good friend that owns a great Mexican restaurant that gives us 20% off. It might be a good ideas to look for discounts in the internet to save. You might be surprised at what you could find hidden in your restaurant’s website. So, when eating out, keep it in moderation. Find the good deals and enjoy yourself!

      • That’s a good way to manage, as i mentioned as well, eat outside or dine outside twice a month is good as it will save us a lot of money and helps providing rest to our loved ones. My mother cooks for me and she’s very good at cooking, i most times ended up on not eating outside for many months and actually she also does not want us to eat outside as she all type of dishes at home.

    • yeah its good to eat outside but i think occasionally only as i did not like to eat outside much, i love to eat the home cooked food, prepared by my mother and its more tasty and delicious and its not good to eat outside and its too costly as well.
We should try to eat outside once a month or twice but not on daily basis

Very well pointed about the issue of animal abuse whichever it is. Humans generally look at what they can get out of a person, animal, forest, environment, soil, river, oceans and the like. Generally they depend on the wealth and resources and since the time money has com they tend to abuse the gifts of nature which have to be respected equally as…[Read more]

    • So it’s also International Book Giving Day yesterday , February 14. I didn’t know that. All I know is that it was Valentine’s day yesterday.

That being the International Book Giving Day, we can hit two birds in one two when we give the children books on Valentine’s day. It means it’s a gift for Valentine’s Day and for International Book Giving Day.

    • @Dina, good idea! Does the kid need to celebrate Valentine’s Day too? I thought this is only the festival for adults? 😛

Anyway, hope the public will donate some books to the kids too beside gifting some roses to their lovers.

Hope I can donate more books to the children whom needed them too next year. Keep my figure crossed.

But the second one once you submit it would prompt that you have said the same comment.

I have been to the site, they have a lot of requirements of which I think it is not necessary.
