    • There is a saying that birds of the same feather flocks together so it is not surprising that some people will support an empty barrel because they themselves are empty. How can educated people follow a man whose words are not even coordinated. He speak lies and they take it as truth. this is where america will break up and terrorism will hit america soon.

      • It is part of the dumbing down process. Americans have gotten dumber and dumber over the years until they can elect someone stupider than they are. The fact is, he’ll bring America into such derision that it will take a long time for it to recover.

I was in the supermarket and a young man who works there is currently in University.  He has those exams every so often and the usual terror.   I told him what to do, and hopefully he will follow this advice.   […]

    • Noting down in the classroom and again rewriting with all decorations and necessary techniques using circles in place of a dot, underlying the important information may be useful to get it back into your memory during an examination may be a good idea. But it works in lower classes only. Once you catch up the steps one by one in the ladder of education system it becomes a herculean task which needs covering various subjects.

      • You’re wrong. It works in Law School, which is pretty much at the very top of the hill when it comes to hard subjects, a lot of information, and needing to think. It works.

    • All the techniques used in school studies help to keep in mind all that have been learnt in the process of teaching. The use of personal diction is not ruled out.At times the use of symbols and unique writings help only the student.

    • Note-taking also works well for me. And even when I’m done with school, I still do a lot of note-taking for research and article writing. Handwriting and copying important lines helps reinforce my understanding of the text.

    • I do that when I was in college. I rewrite all that I have taken notes in the classes I attended.

Then after rewriting , I would read them aloud. That way, I am already at least putting them in my mind.

Like you said, I put highlights in those I think are important. My highlights are of different colors. Color coding as it is said.

Pink would be the most important items and should be memorized.
Green would be those that need not be memorized but should be understood on how they are like that.

I also take time to relax after I have reviewed what I have written. I listen to music after that, or watch a nice show or eat.

    • I need not to take exam anymore for the time being and the past ten years , I only busy with napkin and breastfeeding, haha!

Anyway, I love and miss those study time when I was a student, reading and studying is the most enjoyable task in my life.

I might go back to school for further study in the future. But, e-learning is more common nowadays!

      • Even if it is elearning you want your Beat Book, you want to sit outside on the beach or in the garden, and relax and learn.

    • The best way for me to study was to re-write everything i wrote in class. The more i wrote, the more i memerized. I would sometimes just read the material various times to memerize but it was easier to memerize when i would write it down.

Your method is also a good way to. If you have a specific way to write things down that will help you learn then it becomes easier to study also.

When i was still in school i didn’t study that hard because i was a fast learner and i would just re-write my notes for coleagues and that would be my study session.

    • Your write up is well understood.I get worried over people who use other people’s work without acknowledging them. However, giving honour to whom it is due is discipline and good knowledge.

      • When you quote someone, and give attribution, it is not plagiarism. Saying; “This Book was written by…” is surely not you taking credit so is totally legal.

    • Very well written my friend.

I must say, I am not into writing posts that have facts because that indeed needs some facts that are easy to read on the internet. Though I know copying them would be plagiarizing. I might get some facts but give credit to where I get it and that’s not plagiarizing.

As to pictures, I suppose those freely displayed on google and credit google for it are free for use pictures?

Thank you for clearly explaining about these things.

      • It is perfectly legal to use facts found anywhere as long as you admit it. If I am quoting CNN or a reporter, or a definition, I give the attribution which immediately sidesteps the issue.

    • You mention that the condition is treatable, how is it treated?

      • Copied from psychological journal….

The most frequently used form of therapy is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and systematic desensitization or exposure therapy. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, about 75% of people with specific phobias overcome their fears through cognitive-behavioral therapy.

In desensitization or exposure therapy, you are exposed in a safe and controlled way to the object or situation you fear. The most commonly used exposure therapy involves gradual encounters with the fear-producing object, first in the imagination and then in reality. Through repeated experiences facing your fear, you begin to realize that the situation, while possibly unpleasant, is not harmful. With each exposure, you feel an increasing sense of control over your phobia. This sense of control over the situation and yourself is the most important benefit of exposure therapy. As you become desensitized to your fear, you no longer react with uncontrollable panic when confronted by it.

Relaxation and stress relief techniques are frequently an accompaniment to other therapeutic approaches. Relaxation techniques may include things like specific ways of breathing, muscle relaxation training, guided mental imagery, or soothing self-talk.

Medication can also be used in the treatment of monophobia. Drugs do not “cure” a fear of being alone or any other phobia, but they can temporarily suppress the symptoms through chemical interaction.

kaylar wrote a new post, The Problem with Word Limits 7 years, 9 months ago

Today, considering twitter, flash fiction, and sound/word bytes, people tend to get to the point as quickly as possible.

When you are reading an item on line, the longer it is, the less you read.   In fact, if […]

    • Sites such as this benefit with long posts as the Ads linger on.

      • That is a myth. That is why so many sites demanded 2k words. They thought the longer item would prove the site was ‘serious’. What happens, and you know it for yourself, is that you write an article, it is ‘too short’ you go back and start stuffing words. You’ve said everything you need to in 287 words. But you have to stuff in more. And unless you actually can find another clause that is necessary… blah blah

    • I think it is understandable that in an online earning site, we are there to earn. Thus, we are in a hurry to be able to post and earn more by the comment it would get.

Thus, we know that our time to read is limited, so we also try to make our posts shorter, to also give way for us to be able to read and comment to friend’s posts.

However, in a writing site such as here, there is a minimum number of words for a post to be approved to be published. Thus, I see a lot who are sometimes just beating around the bush just to meet the minimum number of words. I hate to say it, but they are rubbish posts.

Although, some would really go detail by detail, so much so that one would think, is this copied from anywhere and would be checked by Admin if they really are.

So here, you can sense if a post is just being made just to conform to having the minimum number of words. You have just read a few paragraphs but you already know what is being pointed out, because sometimes as go on reading , the writer seems to be already drifting.

Funny, but this is true to some posts here. Can we not just post shorter but substantive posts. If a post needs explanation , then a long post will do.

      • We are on the exact same page… that is how I feel. I write and try to get to the point. The best writers do that… so if you want to know what monophobia is and do a search you DON’T WANT TO READ…

“People all over the world suffer from Monophobia. You probably know people who suffer from Monophobia. Yet, Monophobia is nothing to be afraid or ashamed of…. (blah blah blah)

        You want to Read:

Monophobia is the fear of being alone and can make a person feel insecure, anxious and depressed.

    • I think it is good to write as short as possible. The only good fact is that the message and reason of the write up should be made as clear as possible. There is no crime in writing more words. This may either be for more clearance or emphasis.

      • The modern style is to be as quick as possible. Get to the point as sharp as one can and avoid the ‘very’ and other wasteful modifiers. Although 300 words here is not inordinately long, the fact is that when one finishes their sharp article and has to add 30 or 40 words… they rarely contribute.

    • Yes, that’s a lost opportunity indeed. However, that person shOuld also consider, that no one knows that he /she is coming. That’s how it should be.

Because if the celebrity could have informed that he/she will be coming, then for sure that employee will wait even if it means forgoing of his/her lunch and do it once the given time to arrive has lapsed and no one came.

And in this case, the person who was asked as to where the employee is should be responsible enough, to call the said employee if it is a V.I.P who has come to speak with him/her.

      • In many cases, one doesn’t know that a special visitor is coming. No one knew Barack Obama would want to go to the Bob Marley museum. It wasn’t until he had landed, checked into the hotel, that the calls were made and those who were there were there, and those who weren’t were not.

And as to spying using the phone, I think it will take the government first to ask permission to hack somebody’s conversation when it is of utmost security risk that they are trying to prevent.

    • I really wonder why people fear to live alone. This is really a boon to be alone. There are many advantages of living alone. This is a test for someone to equip themselves for their future success without any disturbance or diversion of attention.

This should be practiced by all young people to be alone without any fear. This is a warmup match before taking up the real one in life. A writer can never be a writer without observing the people. A scientist can not come out with any new theory unless he lives alone and throws his mind to the applications and reading the books.
A footballer can not play his game unless he sits and plans the strategy for himself while dealing with so many attackers. He can not plan how to penetrate and tore the defense of the opponents in the match.
I think this is only a temporary weakness of the people to be afraid of living alone. But,once they practice it is not a major problem for anybody.

      • I fully agree with you. It is so important to be able to function by one’s self. Yet, today, so many people seem terrified of it.

    • Indeed there are a lot of people like that. They just have to have somebody in their company.

I am proud of myself because I learned how to be by myself most of the time. Even at the office, since I am alone in our office room most of the time, because our boss seldom takes her office here but instead upstairs in the affiliates’ office, I learned how to enjoy my own company.

I would always switch on my cell phone’s radio to FM stations where deejays would be in twos and be making jokes in between playing of music. That way, I feel that I am not alone. I laugh at their jokes even while I am alone in the room.

In shopping, I love doing it alone. That’s because I can go on fitting clothes for the whole day, without being bothered that my companion is already getting tired. I eat when I am tired already and would continue fitting and shopping for clothes and shoes and bags.

My husband knows that, because I don’t like bringing him when I am shopping for myself, since he complains it takes me so long to choose what I have to buy.

I love my company. Though of course, I have lots of friends too.

      • I don’t mind being alone. I do like shopping alone so as not to inconvenience anyone. I like to make my own food … I seem to like pepper more than others. I am amazed by people who hate to be ‘alone’.

    • A good discussion. Everyone should learn how to be stayed with own self or home alone. It’s an important task for everyone.

We live, walk, breath, and sleep alone is a good and free thing, no need to take care of others feeling and adjust life style due to other.

I love to be alone or have “me time” after having 2 noisy kids at home. But, they only will be made no noise after sleep. Hehe!

      • It is so important for people to be able to function on their own. To be able to fill their time and thoughts without outside assistance.

Years ago, a particular on line publishing site had many ‘Top Writers’ who were the chief farmers in having the site condemned as a ‘Content Farm’.

A Content Farm is a polite way of saying; “Cow Pasture”.   To […]

    • Yes. I agree with you. Recently the are many who are coming up with some original content. What all they need is to make them understand what a plagiarism and spinning amount to. They are the original content writers. They write on their own. If somebody as per the norms and rules finds some words or sentences he can not be blamed for plagiarism. This happens mostly in dealing with articles relating to science, history, and other professional subjects. Here the idea becomes important than the words. How a content has been projected becomes important. One can not alter the terminology in writing an article on PHYSICS. One can not use his own word or definition for the terms ACCELERATION, velocity, moment of inertia etc., Whoever writes on them they carry the same definition and usage of words. We can not call it plagiarism.
similarly, the dates in the history or the names of the rulers can not be changed. What needs is the expression and the angle from which a content has been projected.

      • That is the fact. One can’t change facts… how one deals with them is what must be examined. There are many good articles here… but also there are some which are not.

    • Yes, I have noticed that a lot here have very nice articles, very well written. But if you try to see at the net if they were original, you will not be surprised at all that they were actually plagiarized.

Most too are spinned as you have defined them above.

That’s why, I find it hard to post here, specially that it has to be a minimum of 300 words.

Mostly, I just write based from my experiences that most can relate. At least, it could create interaction amongst those who can relate to it.

I feel sad though, that here interaction is dismal. Our posts hardly gets responses. I hope it will get better soon.

      • What I find is that without moderation… welll… people do take advantage. Spinning an item is a term of art. For as I say; if you wrote about Queen Elizabeth in 2010 and then go to write about her again, if you have a new perspective it isn’t spinning.

    • It is a general for all to receive a call from an ‘unknown’ in recent days. I prepared myself to face the disturbance the day I purchased a cell phone. What is the problem now? The morning before 10 only persons from office to inform well in advance about their absence or sanction of leave? Nothing else. In the evening after 10 anybody in the office is free to disturb me the reason being
      1. Holding an important position. Any Public Representative will feel it convenient to disturb me when the Head is not available for seeking information relating to Govt., work.
      2. Even Head does not feel it as he himself needs some information on files as Boss
      3. Colleagues and relatives may at any time find it necessary to call upon me as a courtesy.
How can I avoid them? No way. This is the minimum respect and courtesy to answer their call if they happen to be relatives and friends and it will be the responsibility to clarify the doubts and furnish information to the Public Representatives and to the Boss respectively. This I can not avoid.

But, I can’t sacrifice the happiness of the people at home by attending. Instead of causing a disturbance I found a nice way of keeping my cell phone on FLASH only.
Even at the time of taking my breakfast, it will be ready at the side of my plate and ready to flash to make me alert.

I generally do not like people who do not answer a call and plead excuse saying ‘I was in traffic’. I advise them to keep their phone on Vibration mode while in traffic or attending any social gathering where the chances of listening to the phone will be very less.

Responding to a call shows what you are meant for a society.

      • I really disagree here. This is my life. I don’t have to be on call to whomever feels like calling me when it is comfortable for them. I am not a slave. I don’t have to jump when anyone calls. A person calls I have a right not to answer.

A person is driving and the phone rings; let it ring. The person’s life is at risk. And when I am with my friends, no… I don’t answer. The people around me are more important than the caller.

    • I appreciate cell phones, especially, my android. I do, agree, that it should have a proper place in our lives. Families are too caught up with their cell phones at the dinner table that we have forgotten that it is a time to share and enjoy each other’s company without that distraction. I know a Pastor Friend who is with the phone 24/7 and is, constantly, getting calls. While I respect his position to serve others, there should be some consideration that his family time is important. Priorities play a strong role in regards to the use of phones.

      • Exactly Caleb, if we were having dinner I would not consider it proper to have the cell phone at the table. Cell Phones have become the leashes on humanity.

    • Since the advance of the technology from Internet at home until nowadays we have our smartphone with those communication apps, there are companies expected their workers to answer the call and message after work. Some employees even need to attend calls, messages and emails after work. To me this is totally unfair if there is nothing important. After work, they should be given a time to rest. Wow, if employees got to attend the managers or boss after work, then the company is really in a profits. They do not need to pay the employees overtime.

During my father times, not everyone owns a cell phone, therefore after office hours, others don’t have chance to call each another.

There should be a respect to people who had off work and resting at home.

      • Everyone should shut off their phone when they leave work. They shut it off and that is the end of the annoyance. The point is, as soon as I say ‘shut off..’ everyone looks at me as if I suggested they eat their relatives. This is how brainwashed people are.

When I told the BFH I shut off my phone his mouth dropped open. Under no circumstances would I ever answer a work call outside of work.

    • Me, since my contracted phone is from my monthly load allowance, I see to it that the phone is always with me, because my lady boss might have an instruction for me.

Besides, my sisters might call for an emergency news since my father is already 84 and has diabetes and with one leg amputated already so I always would answer it even if it’s at night but this never happens.

As to those unregistered phone numbers, usually they are from my credit card provider to offer me a supplementary card, though they don’t call after 5:00 in the afternoon.

As to my boss, she wouldn’t call on unholy hours although for her, his boss calls even at 2:00 in the morning when an idea suddenly appeared on his mind.

      • That’s the difference. I only like to talk to people on the phone when I feel like it. Not when they feel like it.
