    • I too think the BBC leaves a lot to be desired now. It was as you say, a way people learned to speak proper English and I also believe the standard of reporting has gone down. It is a shame, but I doubt things will improve any time soon. It is all about money for most things these days and I doubt the BBC is different although I hope I am wrong!

      • It was a serious news agency. The people took it serious. Now, it’s been watered down to sound bytes and propaganda. I know there was some shake up and they now have rubbish broadcast over and over again, one can’t listen to it steady.

    • In old times BBC was good. Then social justice warrior news taken over. And now news channels are just propaganda machines. I wonder how this quality has gone down over the years.

      • To me it was a way to cut costs, cut information, and go for the quick news, than a bunch of blah blah. Which, I don’t listen to. I know that there’s stupid interviews, but outside of hearing the ‘topic’ I shut it off. What is needed is another station to pop up being the old BBC…

Everyone has hobbies, like readings, drawing, playing tennis, traveling, so do adults or children.  Having said that, some hobbies  require skill learning, such as playing piano and musical instruments, or s […]

    • Hobbies are important. My children had no T.V growing up and that left time for them to develop their talents. One became an artist and a musician and the other can really sing. I never heard they were bored and they always had energy for their hobbies. We also did ice-skating which was fun. The secret was always to follow the child’s interest and never impose something on them that they were not willing to practice at. That is how I ended up having to have piano lessons. The kids hated them, but I had paid and I think both the teacher and I were glad when that money was used up! I still maintain not having a T.V was the best decision I ever made although of course, being older, we also avoided the intrusion of the Internet till the kids were quite old as it was not really in use.

    • While our daughter was growing up, she asked for a guitar, so we bought her one. She studied guitar through a book she bought and she can already play it while she sings.

Then, she wants a tennis table and played table tennis with her father. After a while, she became busy with studies. The playing of table tennis stopped and the table tennis was kept. The table tennis is now nowhere to be found.

Though her guitar is still at her bed. She didn’t even play with it when she came home for a brief vacation because she is into watching Korea novela instead on her laptop.

But at least, whatever she would like to try, we give it to her.

    • For me, the best thing is to have another peer come over the house. I did that to our daughter when she was still a kid.

We would ask the neighbor’s kid to come over the house. The kid would be there in the house with our kid the whole day. The helper would let the kid eat with our daughter and they really have fun playing.

In the evening it’s our turn to play with our daughter. 🙂

    • Yes, you are right, @Dina,the kids need another peer, if not, they might need the parent to stay along almost the whole day.
I have two kids, so they can play with and play around sometimes, but do need the guidance from the parents sometimes.

Some single kid can play and stay alone for hours, it’s good also for them to have “me” time, I think.

    • There is a lot more you can do. I would like to write an article on this myself. As we did not have a T.V as my kids were growing up I have a lot of experience! One thing I did was create a craft box with all sorts of things to make things with and paint and brushes and glue and junk. If it would work to make something, into the craft box it went. We had many happy afternoons getting that box out and once, my daughter and I used a huge cardboard box and made it into a play oven. That was an afternoon and then other afternoons “cooking” for the dolls.

    • Those are actually all the things I did when I was younger. I am a 90’s child so cellphones and computers were fairly a recent thing especially the Internet.

But my favorite things to do when I was a child was playing with my neighbor. Would would make up the weirdest games, camping in our back yard or just play finding Waldo.

Those were the times we’re we actually spent quality. time with people.

Now a days I see children with iPhones even and that is something I dont find right. I can’t say how to parent a child but let them be a child while they can. Once technology hits it will be impossible to get them off it.

Tiada wrote a new post, The tips on blogging and commenting at LiteracyBase 7 years, 9 months ago

As we all known, there are few ways of earning at LiteracyBase. I would like to touch on two ways of earning and some tips on that.

Earn via blogging. This could be the main source of earning at LiteracyBase […]

    • Very well said. Yeah these things do help a lot, when i was new here, i confused a bit and almost were not able to post my blog for about 4 to 5 days. But now I am able to know some rules and this blog of yours will surely help me ans many other new bloggers and lb members here.
I don’t think and I never heard of anyone getting 22 cents for posting blog, but 15 Cents, but yes I haven’t tried posting a long 800 Words blog, i am blogging for about 330 to 400 words on an average and for comments, its sometimes difficult to comment for about 170 Words, so that it may earn 2 cents but still uts good and worth. Besides I am also still new here and learning with experience and will share my experience with You and other Literacy Base Members as well

    • OK Ceci. Somebody said you could earn more than 15 cents for a blog post which was an eye-opening and very helpful tip. But I did not know that the number of words in comments mattered. News to me!

But it really doesn’t matter to me. I make comments according to what I’m trying to communicate. It could be as little as 20 words, but I do my best not to make my comments 300 words. If I find myself making a comment or contributing to or starting a topic in a group/forum and suddenly realize that can be turned into a blog post, it gets turned into a blog post! That’s how it works for me.

What I’m trying to figure out is why my blog posts are being avoided? Nobody’s commenting. Are my posts that boring or are they too complicated to understand?? (O.o) I need to find the “magic post formula” to get folks to comment AND share. Whew! It’s a tough mission but I’m working on it! 🙂 😀

    • Those are great statistics about word count for comments. I wish there was word count for our blogs.

    • When it comes to the blogs i am not sure because i am new here and haven’t started blogging yet. I mainly put myself into commenting other blogs and surfing around to see how the site works.

I have, however, noticed the earnings due to length of comments also. I am usually a big commenter. If i comment on something then it is because i have something to say and i like to try and explain myself as much as i can.

I noticed the amounts due to length because i did make one or two comments a little smaller than most and saw the difference in the balance.

If what you say about the blogs are true about the 0.22 cents then i do believe that if you have a good idea for a blog and it is a bit long then you sould divide it into 2 blogs. I think it is a better choice, just like you said.

    • The blog is very informative. I’m a newbie on literacy base, I have found your blog very helpful. I have not yet written any blog, but with so much of information you have laid down Am sure I will be writing my first blog very soon. This has also encouraged me to make valuable comments.

    • Yes, I think most users concern about how we can redeem from the site, and when we will get paid too. This post will be helpful to many people, even for those who are considering to join.

I am glad to know that the minimum payout is still $10, at least for PayPal, which is my preferably payment processor. If the rule hasn’t changed since the time I joined, as long as we redeem by end of the month, then we will get paid on 10th next month.

    • I am glad you mentioned the server is slow for everyone as I thought it was just me! I hope they can sort that in time. For now I will just enjoy reading and posting seeing as I am new and the first payday is a long way off.

    • I just joined and still a baby on this website so far I like what I’ve found and hope to learn new things earn a bit of cash and make some new friends. Thanks for letting me know how people are paid thru this site and for letting me know it’s a bit slow. I love reading different blogs and adding my 2 cents as well.

    • Tahnks for the info about redemption dates. It was a thing i was wondering about when it comes to payment and you have explained it nicely.

    • That is true. Since the parents should be the models to their children, they shouldn’t be watching TV too, but instead be with the children to teach and guide them in their homework.

They should see to it that they will study their lessons. Allow them to watch TV only on Saturdays. Sunday morning and afternoon, they can also be allowed. However in the evening no more. They have to prepare their school bags and do their homework.

Better still on Friday night, they should do their homeworks, so by Sunday night they can just study.

    • @Dina is right, we only allowed to watch the T.V after finishing our homework or even during Friday night and weekend is better.
My kids only able to watch T.V when they are at their granny’s house, we have no T.V at home, but computer is another kind of T.V too nowadays.

My kids love to watch the Youtube or some videos clips at the social media too, but always restricted by us.

And, we always mention the computer is belong to me, not them, so they can simply manipulate it or doing something on it. They do alert on this.

We allocate 2 hours cartoon watching time every week for them to watch some cartoon at Youtube.

    • Hm so what was your contribution in the seeding of the mangoe through to it flowering. It was by the hands of God and he did not give it at a price. But for your brother to have a piece of what you got from God for free, he must pay a price for it. Do you think it is right. Do you see why man is suffering so much in the face of plenty? greedy and selfishness is the cause of all our problems in this world. Because of that price you can kill a brother who take some because he is hungry meanwhile God did not take anything from you for that seed that land and that water including the growing process. Hope you now see the begining of all mans suffering?

    • I don’t trust science finding because they will one day come and disprove their own findings and tell us different things meanwhile they have created an information in the mind of people. They told us there were 12 planets in the univers and this was taught in schools over the year wbut now they are telling us they have found other planets disproving their own findings. There are many such things i cant talk about.

      • One of the reasons why this item caught my attention is because of the ease that people fall for scams. I won’t go into the numerous scams that run in my country… but why do people fall for them?

I have found that obverse of the scientific ‘otherness’ finding; that the person ‘just like you’ is the best scammer. The ‘businessman’ ropes in business men, the high school grad ropes in high school grads…

In court the accused scammer looks just like the people he scammed. They way they dress, talk, hold themselves, often age groups.

    • Interesting as one thing I learned when I ran pre-school is that children settle best when their key worker looks like their mum or main carer. We do bond best with the earliest good caregiver and so are likely to prefer people like them. As the caregiver is usually the same race and ethnicity then that would figure. It does in a way, come down to survival. That said, most people when you scratch the surface are the same under the skin, but every family is in itself, a culture even within cultures.

      • The research proves this; the ‘us’ and ‘them’, which is the basis of racism… difference. I have observed a lot of scams and find that the automatic trust we give to ‘us’ can be used against us.

    • But he’s right about BBC, CNN and Buzzfeed. I have yet to validate a single claim of website such as buzzfeed. Lot of crappy articles on buzzfeed. So Trump is right on that part.

      • Buzzfeed is not serious news. The BBC/CNN are. They may ‘spin’ an item, but they don’t fabricate. Trump fabricates. He lies and demands you believe it. The Good Thing is that the world knows he is a liar, a shifter, who will say one thing here, another thing there, such as his Sweden thing. So no one believes anything from the US now.

        • There are lot of spin items at BBC. They were the one who said pakistan is safe country. In reality it turned out that country is the one shipping ISIS mindset all over the world. Same with CNN. They sided with china and guess who is providing support to ISIS and Jem leaders? China. You need to dig very deep to understand where BBC, CNN and Buzzfeed type sites are in order to understand what is fake news and real news.

The banks always only provide loan with the monthly repayment amount […]

    • I think using used RV makes sense for rent. I don’t think I’d buy anything long term. I didn’t find much use for the same.

    • Used cars may fall within the budget but will it be for a long term use? It is impontant to note that though it may be within our budget today, can it be use for a while before requiring servicing. If care is not taken, you can get the car but servicing will end up costing you more which whe putting together could have help you in getting a new car.

    • As a former car dealer rep, I can tell you not to buy without being informed. Take advantage of all information available in the internet about the car you are interested in and don’t let the rep talk you into a car you don’t want. Also, new cars can be brought at a reasonable low down price especially during the fall months. When you have a lot of new cars on the lot, the dealership is losing money so they have to, practically, settle on low prices in order to get rid of them. Bottom line, whether new or not, do your homework and be informed.

I still have some reservations about Literacy Base. I don’t like not being able to edit something I wrote if a mistake gets by me before I publish. I don’t always catch that mistake before I submit, even after I have proofread. Also, if something isn’t working right on the site when I publish, I can’t go back and fix it later.

An example would be the media gallery. I can’t seem to enter information in the forms to change the default title or add attribution and alt text. The post isn’t complete and ready for search engines without those things. I currently have a post written and waiting to submit, but if I do submit as is, I will not be able to fix it if the problem gets solved. Maybe something on my computer is causing the problem. I’ve been having trouble with my mouse misbehaving, and maybe it’s my mouse. That means even if I solve that problem, I can’t go back and add the tags later. Other than that, I like Literacy Base and would like to continue posting.
