Managing email lists: Avoiding failures

Hello Everyone!

I wish to take a break from my long known series of website monetization. So, this article is not actually a part of blog monetization at all. Yet, if you want to make money from your blog by selling your own products, this is what you need to know.

Email list is electronic CRM. This is private data of your customer. Please use it wisely. Please note that email marketing is one of the most important way to make money.

RSS / Newsletter subscription is dead

Well, in earlier days, people relied on RSS. However, these days, this is a poor way to ask for newsletter subscription. The interface is no more friendly and interest is declining fast. RSS failed to provide the desired traffic since the beginning of the 2011.

There are many ways to get the problem solved. There are many websites being launched in the marketplace just for this purpose.

Aweber is one which is cheap providing professional services at a nominal fee. They have a free trial and then you have to convert to a paid service. If you cannot afford it (in the beginning – you are exploring to make money. Generally, you have a small base initially and you cannot afford to mail many for a fee, no matter how small it is), I recommend mailchimp while there are others too.

If you look at a website structure, a complicated forum is no more required. Your customers actually need to first visit the content. They should see just a small inputbox demanding mail id and that’s all.

Freebies should not be “Free”

I know that you might be wondering what I mentioned herewith. Yes, you need to lure customers into something. Something should be given for free and simpler topic.

1.     Keep it relevant to website topic

2.     It should be free of cost but word “Free” should not be mentioned

3.     The Title should sound lucrative

4.     The mail you send should contain a link to download it instead of having that as an attachment.

A sample could be: Get yourself “How to write posts that go viral: toolkit” appearing on a blog monetizing website.

In future, you should tell your customers of exact products you are offering. Let them trust you. They will automatically make you a millionaire. You actually need not do anything.

    • @Thinker First impression they say is the lasting one and in this case it is the contents of the email which could be a ready reckoner too.

      Well said.

    • Great tips! How very true that we should use psychology to "sell" the free newsletter rather than it being seen as a "freebie."

    • Everything that we had our effort in writing should not free with an exemption of having our own blog. It is soft copy properties that should be paid without second thoughts. I don't think it is also healthy to make it for free. The sites who had received such writings will gain profit out of our effort.
