Make a Ghost Puppet for Halloween

Halloween has become one of the most beloved holidays for children and adults alike. Beyond candy and costumes there are lots of fun crafts that you can enjoy and engage your kids with to keep them smiling throughout the spooky season. One of my daughter’s favorites was the ghost puppet.

What you’ll Need:

• White cloth
• Cotton Balls
• Black Marker
• Glue
• A Stick

The Process

1. Start by getting everything together. The cloth should be about the size of a tissue to make a nice ghost. The glue can be a hot glue gun, regular glue or just about anything that will hold the cloth to the stick. The stick should be a little longer than a fork. A chop stick works great!

2. Lay the cloth out flat on the table and find the center.

3. Place several cotton balls in the center of the cloth and gently lift it all. Make sure to tuck the cotton balls into the center to create the head of the ghost.

4. Pinch the neck, just under the cotton balls, and insert the stick. The stick should go through the neck and into the cotton ball.

5. Use the glue to secure the stick in place. Depending on the type of glue used it could take a few minutes up to half an hour to dry. For longer times you can use a ribbon or string to tie around the neck to hold the cloth in place until it dries.

6. Once the glue is dry use the marker to draw a face on the ghost. Two eyes and a big mouth are the norm but you can also get creative.

7. Finally your ghost puppet it finished. Now all you need is a bit of play time and you’ll little ones will be “booing” around the house.

These puppets can be used for more than Halloween fun. If you’re a homeschool mama or just really love playing make believe with your kids, these can be added to an entire puppet cast. Stick puppets are super easy to make and encourage children to use their imaginations through story telling.
