The Magical Mathematical Card Trick

This is a fun and very exciting trick to bring out during parties. It is guaranteed to leave your friends and family bewildered. But believe me, it cannot get easier. Lets get to it.

First thing you need is a deck of cards, obviously. Show the people around that the cards are normal playing cards and they are not trick cards. Hand them over to a few of the guests even and ask them to shuffle the deck. When they are convinced it is a normal deck, take it back and this is where you need to be alert. Don’t worry, its just for a few seconds.

Cut the deck in half and do a riffle shuffle. A riffle shuffle is when you take the two halves of the deck and interlock the cards while sliding your thumbs over the cards. This is where your eyes need to be ready. Try and catch a glimpse of the last card shuffled. This is the card that sits on the top of the deck after shuffling. Make sure you do this correctly and remember it and make sure that no one sees you getting a look at it.

Now, divide the deck into three starting from the bottom. Make sure that the final cut is placed in the middle. This means that the top card that you sneaked a peak at should be in the middle pile. Now flip the top cards of the piles on the left and right. Show them to the guests and place them on the piles.

Now, all you have to do is ask the guests to do a little math. You should know a little yourself as well. For example, if the cards you flipped over are 5 and 9 and you know the card you saw was a 10, do a bit of fake magical math’s and reach the number 10. So, something like this: 5 + 9 = 14 / 2 = 7 + 3 = 10. Now all you need to do is tell one guest to flip the card on top of the middle pile and voila, 10!
