When the travel bug bites us there is no end to where and what we want to see. There is so much around. So the best way is to leave it to tour conductors who will organise everything for us and line up sights that are normally a tourist’s delight.
I have been on many such holidays and I was in a for a happy and pleasant surprise when what was mentioned as ‘Madurodam’ in our itinerary unfolded in Amsterdam. I had no clue what we were in for.
It is a miniature Holland packed in a park well designed. We spent a whole day there walking around. There was information provided in a leaflet giving us the details of all highlights one saw there. Even those windmills that Holland was famous for were in action and so also a miniature wooden shoe factory all placed so neatly that walking around was convenient.
There were resting points where we could refresh ourselves with snacks and juices, as also coffee and tea.
For me the highlight was the flower area – well appointed gardens with tulips being the main attraction. Amsterdam as we all know is famous for tulips. We got to see them there although I missed seeing tulip fields.
There was a children’s area too where kids could play around and take part in some activities.
There was also depictions of how Holland has progressed in the world of business.
There were buildings with age old architecture Holland is noted for.
In other words the Madurodam park had Holland in its entirety progressed over a period of time.
The park could easily be considered unique and whoever conceived of this idea could not have been an ordinary architect.
Madurodam came into being in the year 1952 and it gets upgraded each year. It is reported that tourists that visit the place are in the vicinity of around 750,000 each year.
